Super Confused between IIM Trichy and VGSOM (IIT KGP)
VGSOM (IIT KGP) vs IIM Trichy — I have all the data and I'm still confused. Please help.
Got calls from both. Have been going back and forth for weeks. I've done the research, I've made the spreadsheets, I've talked to seniors — and somehow I'm more confused than when I started. Laying everything out here because maybe someone can see what I'm missing.

**The Numbers**
VGSOM 2025:
- Average: ~22.75 LPA
- Median: ~22.15 LPA
- Highest: ~37.63 LPA
- Top domains: Consulting & Strategy (~45%), BFSI, Analytics
- Batch size: ~140
IIM Trichy 2025:
- Average: ~19.27 LPA
- Median: ~18-19 LPA
- Highest: ~43 LPA (IT outlier)
- Top domains: IT & Analytics (~23%), BFSI, Consulting
- Batch size: ~320
So VGSOM has a higher average AND median, and charges nearly half the fees (~13L all-in vs ~21-22L at IIM Trichy). On pure ROI this should be a no-brainer. But then why am I still second-guessing myself?

**The IIM Trichy Placement Concern**
I recently read in Times of India that 50+ students went unplaced at IIM Trichy. And separately, a senior I spoke to mentioned that the bottom 20% of the batch doesn't have great summer internship placements either. With a batch of 320, even a small percentage of struggles affects a LOT of people. At VGSOM with 140 students, the placement process feels manageable — and their near-100% placement consistency seems to back that up.

**Batch Size & The Competition Angle**
This is something I keep thinking about. At VGSOM with ~140 people, you have a real shot at standing out — in class, in clubs, in front of recruiters. You can actually be someone. At IIM Trichy with 320 students, you're competing with twice as many people for the same recruiter attention, the same club leadership spots, the same internship slots. If you're not in the top 30-40% of the batch, does the IIM tag even work ?

**The Peer Group Question**
Here's what genuinely confuses me. IIM Trichy's CAT cutoff is around 94 percentile. VGSOM's is around 90 percentile. The peer quality at IIM Trichy should be slightly higher. And there's also the fact that IIM Trichy is a dedicated management school — it's built around the MBA experience. You'll be surrounded by people who chose management, not engineers who also happen to be doing an MBA. That sense of a "real MBA environment" — the culture, the competitions, the feel of it — maybe that matters more than I'm giving it credit for?
And also the fact that VGSOM is just shining because of the Halo of B.tech in IIT kGP.
**NIRF Rankings**
IIM Trichy jumped from rank 27 to rank 16 in NIRF 2025 — which is impressive momentum. But VGSOM has historically been in the top 8-10. So VGSOM currently ranks higher, but IIM Trichy is climbing faster.
(But then again I don't trust these rankings much)

**What's pulling me toward IIM Trichy:**
- The IIM tag. I know it shouldn't matter this much but it does.
- Dedicated MBA culture and environment
- stronger peer profile
- Strong upward trajectory in rankings
**What's pulling me toward VGSOM:**
- Better placements on every metric that matters (avg, median, domain quality)
- Less than half the fees
- Smaller batch = more visibility, more chances to excel
- IIT KGP's alumni network is old, senior, and actually reachable
- The placement consistency is just more reliable
Has anyone actually been through either program or recruited from either campus? Would really love some ground-level perspective.
