Going to school as an autistic person
Hello everyone.
I was recently diagnosed with autism and I'm currently trying to learn how to navigate life better. At the moment I'm in highschool.
I think a very common struggle for autistic people is managing school and everything that comes with it. Personally my main struggle is actually attending to class because I am just too exhausted most of the time.
So I'm wondering if any other autistic people have found ways to minimize the exhaustion from social interactions and the constant stimulations that just are a part of school. What accomodations helped you to be able to go to school? Or what accomodations could you imagine as helpful, if you didn't get the support you may needed back when you were in school? I'm also researching and talking to my therapist about this but I thought that some personal experiences from autistic people could be helpful or interesting as well.
Since I have changed schools I'm lucky enough to have a really small class and supportive teachers by now, but I still need to find and communicate ways they could support me. Of course not everything works for everyone but I'd love to hear your experiences or ideas. Also all other experiences you'd like to share.
I'm very sorry for any grammar mistakes, english isn't my first language. I hope this post is appropriate and understandable for this subreddit, my apologies if not.
