The Tele I configured in the Mod Shop.

Hey guys and gals,

I’m planning to get myself a Telecaster to go alongside my Les Paul and Strat, both of which are Custom Shop models. I really love the Charcoal Frost Metallic finish, which I recently saw Chris Shiflett playing at a Foo Fighters concert. The overall specs available in the Fender Mod Shop (wood, neck, tuners, etc.) seem perfectly fine for my needs. The overall cost is about EUR 2,100.

My main hesitation is with the pickups, since the choice in the Mod Shop is fairly limited. I’m looking for a modern, twangy Tele sound, preferably without too much single-coil noise. I initially thought about going for noiseless pickups (they currently offer the Nashville Gen.4 noiseless in a SSS config), but after trying a few guitars at a local shop, I actually found that the V-Mod pickups suited my taste best. I play mostly at home so that noise should not be a big problemn, after all. It isn't at least with my Strat.

What I’m wondering is whether the V-Mod pickups available through the Mod Shop are the “real thing” in terms of quality and sound, or whether they are somehow different or cheaper versions compared with the standard Fender V-Mod pickups htat are also found in higher priced Teles.

There are so many Telecaster pickup options out there that I’m finding it a bit hard to judge, so I’d really appreciate any thoughts or experiences you may have.
