Cheap Thinline body. Mighty mite neck.
Tone rider pickups. I dig it.

As the title implies, i have little knowledge of telecasters and have been wanting to buy one, is this an old telecaster? Or is this one of those vint-aged reproductions fender did that makes it look old? I see that theres crackling all down the fret board and im assuming its old but i truly have no idea. Is the worth buying? any information is greatly appreciated!
I’ve made this telecaster from scratch the wiring part. When I put the multimeter on the sleeve of the output and on the cable tip when it’s in, I get no feedback. I had a messy soldering job before and I redid that and I am pretty sure I did everything correctly. Could someone please tell me what I am doing wrong?
£70 diy kit, £23 tuners, £13 saddles, Roller, shielding tape,
pickups used classic vibe alnico £40
Used some old squire pickguard and knobs
So £150 all in, it plays perfectly, straight neck, low action, the issue is it’s a leave alone one time to set up, the wood is very soft and light not for unscrewing and screwing more than 1 or 2 times, plus a little neck dive but for sitting down its comes to just under 2.5kg just under 5.5lbs,
Lightly Rolled Edges, sorted the frets and gave the neck some TLC
My shielding was done in a hurry and the fretboard wood is nothing major, for a beginner or hobby it has been great, and the frets are more shiny than my mexican tele now, to scared to touch the frets on my MiM,
Comparing to my mexican tele it just brings out that extra quality in the mexican when playing side by side, I guess once you have quality you feel the difference, sound wise it can get real close and more subjective imo,
The real question is what do I do with my diy guitar now?
i’ve been finding such guitar that fits my aesthetic for a while, but most tele is equipped with single coils, which doesn’t really fits me. r there any guitar recommendations?
After getting this telecaster a year ago I’ve always liked a hs style Tele and figured why not do my first mod ever to a 3k guitar
Picked up this B-bender Tele which is an absolute time capsule find (one owner who never played it). Still has the original plastic protective sticker covers on the metal parts as well as the pick guard 🤯 Its in as good condition as the day it left the store... Most importantly, it plays / sounds incredible! 🎸
I’ve read some of the posts on this subject and still would like any input out there. For roughly $200 more, you get a bone nut, locking tuners, brass saddles and upgraded electronics - from what I understand.
These are all solid upgrades that would cost more than $200 to put on a standard player ii. Can anyone advise on whether this is correct or, if not, why it’s not a great value.
Thanks!
Loved the sound, look, and history with teles . Andy Summers, Albert Collins, Danny Gatton, all inspiring. But every tele I tried sounded meh, felt meh, or both, until yesterday. Used my day off to trade in a bunch of old gear at the local music shop. As per usual, tried about 6-8 teles, meh. They had a pair of b-stock G&Ls, functionally brand new. Picked this one up and wow. Resonant unplugged and everything felt perfect. Neck has a knot on the 4th fret, so I tried its twin, which had an unblemished fretboard. Totally dead, meh. Got this and two used pedals even steven with the trade. I’m supposed to go to a bunch of parties today for the fourth, but honestly, I just want to play this thing until I can’t any more. Woot woot!
Do you think its still in tune?
I posted this for some funny comments and you people did not disappoint. Haha. How did i know there would be a comment on the tele's versatility. Dam.
Picked up a gorgeous player 2 tele on eBay in the $300s as a donor guitar for a Hipshot Parsons/Green bender project. British racing green with a roasted maple warmoth neck.
Today was phase one which included shielding the cavity, new electronics, new in-tune bridge and brass saddles, 4-way switch, and a new set of SD La Brea pickups. This thing sounds and plays unbelievable and now I’m having second thoughts about taking a router to it. Stay tuned for part 2 in a few weeks.
I'm not completely new to the guitar, but might as well be, since this is my first time making a meaningful investment of time and effort into lessons, not just playing around casually and out of curiosity (not that there's anything wrong with the latter).
This is also my first time owning a decent instrument. In the past, I didn't see the value in anything other than a budget instrument, because it never made sense to me spending the money if I wasn't going to take it seriously and put the time into it.
Over time, I know it's inevitable there will be scratches and dings. I'm not worried about that because it just means the guitar is being played regularly, and that's a good thing.
That said, I want to take good care of the instrument and maintain it best I can, because I care-- not just about the financial investment, but the sentimental aspect of it as well as my first serious instrument, and one I'm spending a lot of time with.
Other than keeping up with the strings over time, what (if any) specific products do you prefer to use for cleaning the neck, body, etc? I could just grab something like furniture polish from a kitchen cabinet, but there are also a lot of products marketed for guitars.
I'm curious what people's preferences/suggestions are when it comes to ongoing care and maintenance. I'm talking about things like oils and residues from your skin, and dust/grime in general. What I don't want to do is blindly use something from our household cleaning supplies, only to find out later that it degrades the finish or leads to damage over time.
What are you using and what's your routine? Anything in particular you'd point out to a beginner other than grabbing a microfiber cloth and wiping it down before putting it back on the stand between bursts of playing throughout the day?
Appreciate the suggestions..
Edit: it is a maple neck and alder body
this is my first time building a telecaster and I’ve done everything from scratch. I’m up to the part where I’m wiring the telecaster and I’ve tried to do everything correct but it came out wrong. When I plug it in, there’s no sound and I checked the output jack and I checked if anything interfered and I don’t see no problem. I understand my soldering looks messy, but that’s because it’s my first time doing so. I tried to take some off, but that just simply doesn’t work. can someone please try to help me?
I bought this on the cheap as I wanted the tuners for a project. so really not bothered . It’s been badly drilled at the base aswell. There is an illegible serial and the stars make it look like a fake. To me it looks like a cheap neck bought from china, where someone has attempted to make it look real possibly for a Frankenstrat build. But wondered what everyone else’s opinion is?
Well, I finished my baby and I love it. Waiting for parts, stickers, the logo was the hardest part. Getting to know this thing inside and out has been a wonderful little project and I had a blast. It sounds incredible and I’ll have to do a little vid of Steelers tribute with it!
Edit: now with sound demo!
It has everything I need for the level I'm at, I was just hoping it would be delivered without needing to be set up. I was reading good reports that the modern Squiers out of China we're really being set up nice by closer manufacturing tolerances.
I think I have a very minor fret buzz on the low E string. So I'm guessing that's a high fret.
The front edges are completely playable so I don't have a problem with that, and I could send what's left of those on my own .
Does Guitar Center sand down frets to be even for a reasonable cost? I wouldn't mind paying for that to get done if it's just a one and done thing.
My plan is to put Alnico 5 pickups in it, but not until I'm sure that I've got a straight enough platform. Certainly doesn't need to be Gucci like a $600 or $900 Telecaster, but it needs to be straight .
I have an Epiphone Casino and 230 pounds. I want to fix this guitar and buy a Fender champion II 25. I also want to buy a Squier FMT SH telecaster. Should I fix my epiphone and buy a fender amp or get this telecaster? The epiphone would probably be about 30 to fix. What do I do??
I’ve seen a guitar a few times, but now I can’t remember where.
I’m almost certain it wasn’t a fender or squire, but it was blackguard and had two single coil pickups which resembled P90s though may not actually have been. Fairly sure the back one was angled. Soapbary. I don’t know if it is a custom model, but I can’t find it in any Yamaha model pacifica SC, and it’s not the Hohner one prince played.
It’s driving me nuts.
Former owner said it was built/assembled by a local luthier and is nitro finished. Color is copper. For the pickups I have no idea of the make and model but they sound good. Only modifications i've done so far was changing the pickguard screws to black for a seamless, cleaner look
