Anyone else had recurring boils/infections after getting staph?

About 2.5 years ago I was training Muay Thai in Thailand and got staph/MRSA infections. I had antibiotics and eventually got rid of the initial infections.

But ever since, I’ve kept getting recurring spots/pimples that sometimes develop into proper boils/abscesses. I’ve had roughly 12 courses of antibiotics over the last couple of years, and they still keep coming back - this is without me even training.

I’m now seeing a dermatologist to try and figure out what’s going on.

Has anyone else had something similar after getting staph from Muay Thai/BJJ/MMA - where the original infection was treated but you continued getting boils or skin infections for months/years afterwards?

I reallyyyyyy want/need to get back to Muay Thai, but this keeps stopping me. Would be really interested to hear if anyone else has dealt with this and eventually managed to get back to training normally.

plzzzz help and thanks :)

Spots turning to boils

I've been getting spots/boils like these on and off for around 2 years. I've had roughly 12 courses of antibiotics for similar infections in different places around my body. Recently they seem to be mostly on my lower legs.

This one started as a small pimple with a whitehead which I squeezed. I didn't cover it afterwards and over the next few days it developed into what you can see in the picture.

I've previously had confirmed staph/MRSA infections, so I'm wondering if it could be related, although I know l'a need a swab to confirm.

I've been taking MB40 probiotics and feel they may have helped, but I missed a few days recently. I was also away for a few days, wasn't showering as regularly and wasn't getting much sleep, so not sure if that contributed.

Blood tests have all been normal. I'm seeing a dermatologist as soon as I can.

I'm just getting fed up with having to take antibiotics every time one appears. Has anyone else had recurrent boils/abscesses after MRSA/staph and eventually found something that stopped them coming back?

Recurring boils mostly on legs, also get athletes foot

Hi all,

I’ve been getting recurrent boils/abscesses for the last few years and I’m trying to figure out why.

They usually start as a small red bump around a hair follicle and can turn into painful boils or abscesses. I’ve recently had one on the sole of my foot lanced and have had several others on my lower legs/shins/calves over the past few months.

I’ve had multiple courses of antibiotics recently and completed a staph decolonisation regimen, but I’m still getting new spots. I also have recurring athlete’s foot which seems to come and go.

I live in a campervan but I’m very clean and wash myself, clothes and bedding regularly. I initially thought it might be related to work or training, but lately I’ve been getting them even when I’m not working.

Has anyone experienced something similar? Could athlete’s foot be contributing to recurrent boils? Does this sound like recurrent staph colonisation, folliculitis, or something else?

I’ll post photos of some recent lesions.
