I messed up the AlDente deinstallation and now am quite panicky – help appreciated!

Hey everyone,

I installed AlDente (the charge limiter app) a couple of weeks ago on my MacBook M4 Pro (macOS 15.7) to try it out and ideally to preserve battery health. However, I noticed my battery was draining much faster than usual, and in just 2 weeks, my battery health dropped by 2% (from 90% to 88%). So, I decided to uninstall it.

Here’s what I did (and where things seemingly went wrong):

  • I quit the "AlDente" app (via Activity Monitor).
  • I dragged it to the Trash from the Applications folder.
  • When I tried to empty the trash, I got some form of a "You don’t have permission" error.
  • I tried to change permissions via "Information" as stated in the error-notice, but it said that I (admin) don’t have permission to change permissions…
  • I then tried to put the app back (right-click → "Put Back") to try again, but now it has a grayed-out icon with a crossed-out circle and says "The app is damaged and can’t be opened" when I try to launch it...
  • I put it in the Trash again, then dragged it onto the Desk, same problem, it's now at the desk, greyed out, can't be opened…
  • I unfortunately did not reset the charge limit from 85% to 100% before uninstalling (I had no idea this was necessary – I just treated it like any other app I uninstall, which seems to be a huge mistake...)

And here are my questions:

  • Did I damage my battery permanently by not resetting the limit to 100% first?
  • How do I fully uninstall AlDente (including all background services) when the app is already in a "damaged" state?
  • Should I reinstall AlDente first, set the limit to 100% and then uninstall properly? Or is that risky?
  • I read that AlDente installs a LaunchDaemon – could this still be active even though the app is "damaged"? Will this mess with my Macbook?

I’m really not tech-savvy, so step-by-step instructions would be hugely appreciated. I read that but "Pear Cleaner" might help… Will this delete all background-stuff too?

Also, any reassurance about the battery would we appreciated – I’m pretty anxious right now tbh. I wanted to do something good and now feel like I meddled with the system and damaged everything… My battery is charging rn, it's at 99% so far, so that's a good sign I think… But it didn't go up the last percentage to 100%, in the last 15 minutes, so …

Thanks in advance for any help, I really hope to get though this without further problems.

EDIT: FYI It's now at 100%, still with the charging-icon (lightning bolt).

Battery health dropped by 2-3% in only two weeks, since I started using AlDente

Hello everyone! I stumbled across AlDente a few weeks ago and decided to give it a go. I use it for now about two weeks. I had my MacBook M4 Pro for 1,5 years now and never treated its battery any special – or good – I have 276 cycles, I think that's about 1 cycle for every two days. So, I use it unplugged/mobile most of the time and if I work at my desk it's plugged in at 100% for hours. The last two weeks I went a bit more stationary and therefor installed AlDente, loading stops now at 85%.

Now I saw that the health degraded in just these two weeks from 90% to 88% (macOS health, but also the "max. capacity" dropped 3%).

I'm tempted to delete AlDente now, since it feels like that might be the reason. I'm not overly concerned since I would have to replace the battery in the long run anyway but also I don't want to meddle with things only to make it worse...

Do you have similar experiences? Or will the battery degrade, now that its health is lower, super fast anyway?

Will I enjoy the Yamaha HS5-sound for casual listening if my casual headphones are beyerdynamics?

I hope it's the right subreddit since it was deleted right away at audiophile… I don't want to discuss any purchases per se but the general sound of the monitors compared to my listening experiences (:

So, I'm currently looking for upgrading my home studio and desk. For now I listen to music solely with my headphones (beyerdynamic DT 700 pro X and 900 pro X).

Since I have a little home studio I decided on the Yamaha HS5, so I can both mix and also enjoy other artists music.

I read that the HS5 aren't as much "fun" and also fatiquing for "casual listening".

Since I have the DT 900 and DT 700 and LOVE them (I know they are analytical but to my ears they are sooo good, even after hours of listening), I was wondering if this would even apply?

The DT 990 and 770 I found indeed fatiguing after a few minutes, they were way to bright.

I know that you can't give me a bulletproof answer, but I'd love to have a little heads-up from the community for what to expect based on my and your listening experience so far, thanks! 🔥

For for the sake of completeness, I'm located in Germany and my budget is around 200€ per monitor/speaker.

Hello eyeryone! I inherited a guitar from a family member who got this guitar from another family member who was a musician back in the 70s. It's an acoustic Levin LT-18 from the 60s (made in Sweden). I found the model here: https://www.vintage-guitars.se/Levin/Levin_LT_18_info.php

Since the last person owning it did not play the guitar in general I know for sure that it was for at least the last 20 years like 99% in its case, it was very rarely played after the original owner passed away. Clarification: I was the only one playing it, maybe once a year or so, if even. I haven't played it for a few years now.

I now just opened the case and again noticed its intense craquele and the smell. It always had a very unique smell, like old instruments but also something else. Not really unpleasant but somewhat strange.

Now I wonder if that's a nitro finish? Online I only found that's a "Natural finish", which is not very telling for me.

If it is a nitro finish what does this might say about the safety playing it? The guitar sounds amazig, very warm and full but I read that nitro finishes had nasty stuff in them (which most likely luckily evaporates over time). But since the guitar was kept in the case for the last two decades I wonder if the smell is actually harmful, now that I want to play it regularly. I tend to be sensitive with smells, so maybe I'm alarmed too easily.

What do you think, is this a nitro finish and if so, what should I now do with it? Is it safe to play even when it's smelling stange? Thank you for any input! 😄

Edit: Clarification.
