[15/08/26] Anyone fancy some karaoke in Victoria tonight? 🎤

I’m planning to head to BAM Karaoke in Victoria tonight for the free karaoke from 8:30.

Going solo at the moment, so thought I'd see if anyone fancies joining. I’m in no way claiming to be the next Bon Jovi, so questionable singing ability actively encouraged to make me feel better. 😂

I'm thinking around 8ish. Anyone up for it?

[14/08/26] Kings X Summer Sounds (Take II)

As my first attempt at posting this today was ruthlessly dispatched by the modfathers, let's try this again...

Would anyone like to come to the Kings X Summer Sounds festival tomorrow night? Free entry, starts at 6:30pm, and arrive early if you want one of the cushty deckchairs.

6 Music-approved Little Grandad are playing, who I've caught before and are excellent live, plus Len Blake, who has a few songs I really like. Quite a different proposition from tonight's Molotovs-inspired moshpit.

I'm 43M, although obviously this is open to anyone.

And, in anticipation of any further mod interrogation:

Q1. How much do I personally benefit from this shameful act of self-promotion?
A. Nowt. Zip. Not a sausage.

Q2. Am I an AI bot in disguise, ready to take over humankind with em dashes and an overuse of emojis?
A. Not when I last checked.

Q3. Am I just looking for someone to share a fun evening of free, cool music and casual chat?
A. Yes. That's it. You got me.

I've deliberately left out the link this time in case that was what triggered the sensors. It's easy enough to Google.

If any of that sounds vaguely appealing, stick your hand up or shoot me a message.

[09/08/26] - Anyone fancy some spontaneous culture today? 🎨

I'm thinking of heading into London early afternoon and checking out Somerset House, Whitechapel Gallery or Saatchi Gallery — decision currently pending a rigorous process of elimination (or maybe spinning a bottle and seeing where it points).

I’m far from an art connoisseur, so the plan is less serious cultural pilgrimage and more wandering around, hopefully stumbling on something interesting. Potentially debating whether we’re looking at something profound or just fabricating a meaning.

My wife is away with the kids (so not a dating post) — thought it would be nice to meet someone new, have a good chat and see where the afternoon takes us. Any age/gender welcome. I'm 43M.

Anyone free and fancy it? Speak now or forever hold your peace.

[08/08/26] Can anyone lend me a follow for an hour or two? (Swing Patrol Free Swing Dance at Spitalfields 2-4pm)

I'm treating this weekend as a personal challenge to see how much fun I can cram into it...

With my wife and kids away, I'm making the most of an unusually free Saturday.

Before dashing to a gig in the evening, I've spotted that Swing Patrol are running a free outdoor swing dance session in Spitalfields this Saturday (2–4pm). Details here:

https://www.spitalfields.co.uk/upcoming-events/swing-patrol-at-spitalfields-free-outdoor-swing-dancing/

The format is usually a beginner lesson where everyone rotates partners, followed by social dancing afterwards.

Whereas there's normally no shortage of willing participants (or victims), I find it's more enjoyable to have someone to keep coming back to during the social dancing. You get into a rhythm together, especially once someone's got used to my slightly eclectic collection of moves gathered from various (mostly jive) classes over the years.

So I'm wondering whether anyone fancies joining me? Ideally a follower (in jive parlance!), but whether you've never danced before (happy to share a few basics) or you've got plenty of swing or jive under your belt, I'd love to hear from you.

For any followers reading, there's also a practical upside: there are usually fewer leaders than followers, so you'd probably spend more time dancing than waiting on the sidelines.

Before Reddit does what Reddit occasionally does, I'm a happily married 43M. I'm simply looking for someone to share a fun couple of hours of dancing and maybe a chat while we're both gasping for air between dances.

If any of that sounds like your sort of Saturday afternoon, feel free to shoot me a message.

[08/08/26] Subcat Summery Party @ Strongroom Bar (AKA Professional finder of free indie gigs seeks accomplices.)

Hi everyone,

I used to act as gig guide to a number of waifs and strays on the streets of London. Kind of like a pied piper, only without anything remotely constituting musical talent.

Then life happened and my gig buddies scattered to far-flung corners of the world. Now the kids are older, I've caught the live music bug again and I'm making up for lost time.

I'm mainly into indie/alternative music and focus on hunting out low-cost (often free) gems – new bands, showcase sets and intimate venue gigs. Think the buzz of unearthing your next favourite band in an intimate setting before they're selling out venues at extortionate prices.

This year I've seen Florence Road, LIFE, Any Young Mechanic, Walt Disco and more, all for nought. They've all been solo trips, which I'm genuinely fine with. I’m just beginning to think it'd be nice to have someone to chat with between bands instead of doom-scrolling on my phone...

My next outing is the Subcat Summer Party at Strongroom Bar on 8th August with Alabama 3 (far greater than just The Sopranos soundtrack), FEET, Home Counties and a few others. I actually have a couple of spare tickets after friends dropped out, so if it sounds like your sort of thing you're more than welcome to join me.

More generally, I'm hoping to build a small network of people with similar musical tastes. I probably get to 15–25 gigs a year (plus the odd festival), so it'd be nice to occasionally have someone to meet for a pre-gig beverage, stumble upon a new favourite band, or simply have somebody to message saying, “Are you up for this Rough Trade East in-store next week?"

Any age, gender or background is welcome (I'm 43M, if that matters). The only real requirement is that you'd rather spend an evening discovering the latest hotness than sitting at home wondering what to binge on Netflix.

If any of that resonates, feel free to comment or drop me a message.
