Independent transitioning to hospital.

Hello fellow techs! I have been a tech at an independent pharmacy for almost 13 years. I love my schedule as I have every other Friday, Saturday and Sunday off. I am looking to move to a hospital med rec tech position to have better long term stability and to broaden my skill set. For those of you who have worked in hospital, is this a downgrade? I wonder if I will regret taking it as I have a family and im still not sold on working holidays and weekends. thanks in advance!

Hospital vs Independent

I’ve been working at an independent pharmacy for 13 years. I love my schedule and the time it gives me with my family. At this point I am worried about my job security long term. Reimbursements remain low, we can keep anyone on staff for more than a year or two, I have some ethical concerns about how the business is ran, etc. A possible opportunity has arose for a Med Rec position at a local hospital. The pay in the same as my current job, but it’s a longer commute, the raise structure wont keep up with what I’ve been getting for raises historically. But I cant help but wonder if it would be a more secure job long term. they have health insurance, currently I’m paying for health insurance through the Marketplace, which seems to cost more and more every year. Anyway, I’m having a hard time deciding. What do you all think?
