CA Break Laws - changing time card

Hey all,

So I recently started this part-time, retail job at a college. My typical shifts are 8.5 hrs (8 working hours considering lunch), so my understanding is I am allowed two 10 minute breaks. I’m always given a lunch, it’s scheduled and always verbally reminded by managers to take. For weeks, myself (and coworkers) have only been given a lunch, no 10 minute breaks at all. Even for 6 hour shifts, only a lunch no breaks. Because the store’s fairly new, the team is small and a lot of times we are stuck at the task we are at alone for hours - so even asking to use the restroom has been hard at times.

Anyways, upon clocking out on ADP it asks if we’ve been given a lunch (I say yes), and it asks if we’ve been given rest periods in accordance to the law and there have been multiple times I marked “No”. ADP has automatically shown the penalty hrs but after looking at the most recent timecard approval, my timecard was changed to no penalty hours by a manager with a reason note saying “answered question incorrectly.” My manager’s never asked me about it, but she told me yesterday to not mark no anymore because they “have to pay a penalty”.

I don’t plan on staying forever, but I feel like if I’m owed for my time, I should be paid for it. Not sure what my options are at this point. TIA

On the Road Tour Shirt 2025

Hey all! Last year, I went to Tyler’s concert in Arizona for the On the Road Tour. I bought the brown shirt with the tour map and I love it. Unfortunately, it got a big rip and I wanted to replace it, but I can’t seem to find it anywhere online. Anyone know where I could get one? TIA!

MLK Library

I was at the library on the 2nd floor, and an unhoused man was watching a naked woman doing yoga on the computers. That was the first interesting thing. Next, a man across from him thought I was looking at him and started yelling at me for looking at him and calling me the f slur?? The library security was there watching it all go down with no intervention. When the guy who yelled at me left, the security asked me if I was okay, but also that they saw me respond to the man. Does security even do anything there? What’s the point if they don’t care about disruptive people and some people are left feeling not completely safe?
