Verizon is a 200 billion dollar publicly traded company, do they really need to send people door to door to break balls?

Just had two employees ring my bell (with a no soliciting sign on the door of course) to sell me some bullshit.

Who the fuck buys anything door to door anymore? Is this really the best practice of a huge telecom company, to act the same as some shady solar sales guy?

Anyway, fuck Verizon.

Ryan Kalish crossed my mind recently, so I looked him up

I always liked the dude.

After he washed out of MLB due to injury 10 years ago (he played hard), he has some substance abuse issues, straighten himself out with pilates (!), and then he turned into a legit humanitarian. Dude is out on the streets in super poor countries giving people food and water.

Different path than most ex-ballplayers. Good for him.

He hit 4 HR's in his career, two of them grand slams in his rookie year with the Sox.

From last night: saved a woman from cracking her head open twice

I was with a group of people, and a young woman was walking around doing back flips for the folks. I guess after a while she became tired and over-shot her landing and was about to hit the back of her head on the ground. I saw what was about to happen and caught her, ending up with my hand behind her head so it wouldn't hit.

She was freaked out and lay there for a minute...then for some reason she did it again, and again I saved her from hitting her head, but the 2nd time I barely caught her in time.

Any thoughts?

My run along the Charles today

I went out and back from the MOS to the River St bridge earlier today.

Tons of work being done for the 4th behind the hatch shell. Cars, trucks and news vans everywhere, but it was ok to run. The public bathrooms behind the hatch are now off limits (and the other bathroom a little further west with the flat roof has been closed all year) but there are porta-lets all over the place set up for the 4th.

Talked to a DCR guy, he said the 3rd during the day will be fine for walkers, runners, bikers, on the Boston side of the Charles - they will just be pushed to the path that runs along Storrow. The inner path will be closed for security. (On the 4th, forget about it.)

I won't lie, I felt a bit of class rage looking at them setting up the huge air conditioned tents for the rich people. Also seemed like the seating in front of the stage pushes the steerage folks even further back than ever so the chosen can sit on their nice white folding chairs in front of the stage.

Back in the day you could get right to the edge near the stage. Those days are long gone.

One other note - the geese were nowhere to be found. IDK if the commotion scared them away or they use some form of deterrence for the holiday, but I didn't see any in 9 miles of running. Very odd.

Cost of starter motor replacement (info)

I have information, not a question.

Wife's 2017 US Spec Juke would not start. Tested battery (ok @ 12.5v), replaced key fob battery, checked brake switch, nothing. Just a click when hitting the ingition.

Long story short, AAA towed it to my local mechanic, they did their troubleshooting and the total cost for the starter replacement is $775.

The starter is located in a bad spot next to the transmission. They have to remove the manifold to reach it., which is most of the cost. Gone are the days of the starter being right on top - two bolts, two wires, and you are done.

Anyway, thought the $775 info might be helpful to the next bloke who needs a starter.

Is it unusaul for a community theater to "charge" actors a small fee?

I just finished up what I expect is my last college production and am looking for my next project.

Local community group has a Neil Simon play that is right in my wheelhouse, but on the info page this made me pause:

"If cast, there is a membership fee of $25. As an all volunteer theater, we are not a part of the Actors’ Equity Association."

I have only done college productions, so I don't know if this is strange or not. Ok or sus?
