Is RSMeans worth learning for a beginner estimator?

I’m trying to improve my understanding of labor productivity, assemblies, and unit pricing in construction estimating.

Would learning RSMeans help in real-world residential/commercial estimating work?

Or do most companies rely on their own historical cost database?

Looking for recent insights on residential construction costs around Columbus and nearby areas like Westerville, Dublin, and Akron.

For those who’ve worked on projects there recently what’s the rough cost per sq ft to build a house right now?

Any input would be appreciated.

Just started learning Bluebeam Revu for takeoffs and plan reading.

Most videos I’m finding are either too fast or jump into advanced stuff.

Any good beginner-friendly YouTube channels or step-by-step playlists you’d recommend?

Also open to free courses if there are any worth checking out.

Thanks in advance 👍

I see many people recommending STACK for beginners.

But can it handle:

Large commercial projects?

Detailed assemblies and costing?

Or do most estimators eventually switch to tools like Bluebeam Revu or PlanSwift?

Curious what professionals think.
