Culture

I’m fairly new to the Civil Service and still getting used to the culture after working in the private sector.
How closely is day-to-day activity actually monitored in practice? For example, Teams status, time spent active on your laptop, logging on/off, etc. Is it generally quite output/trust-based, or are managers likely to notice or question periods where you’re showing as away?
I’m not asking because I want to skive! I’m genuinely trying to understand the culture and expectations, particularly when working from home. In previous jobs I’ve sometimes felt I needed to be visibly “online” all the time even when I was getting my work done, so I’m just curious how it tends to work in the Civil Service.

Recruitment timescales

I’ve received an offer for an SO level post, but quite a specific position. Access NI certificate all sent and received, what are the time scales now? I’ve worked in the private sector for 20 years so this is my first civil service position and I’m already frustrated by the bureaucracy!!
