Any idea when the interviews are due to finish and when the results are likely to be out?

Forgot to ask at the end of my interview, was too glad for it to be over to think to ask haha

Pre Booked Annual Leave

I’m due to start on 27th July but currently have a holiday booked from 1st August for a week. I tried emailing hr connect who replied saying they can’t help me. Is there going to be any issues or do I just say to my line manager once I start?

NICS Trainee Auditor/ Account Roles

I was wondering if anyone has received a job offer yet after the emails went out a few weeks ago with merit position? I appreciate there is no timeline but would be useful to know if any offers have been issued. Thanks

Private sector vs public sector

Hi all,

Have had my DP interview and I think it went well. Without getting ahead of myself my attention now switches to what I would do if I get offered a post.

Without wishing to dox myself, I have also had another offer from a private sector job with a slightly higher wage with an 8% pension.

Im just wondering a couple of things, particularly from people who have made this kind of decision previously- what did you choose, why did you choose it and do you feel you made the right decision? What factors did you take into consideration when making the decision and do you wish youd considered anything else at the time?

Thanks in advance!

Using AI on online tests - common or not?

I’ve personally heard quite a few people say they’ve used AI to help with online assessments, and I’m curious whether this is genuinely common or whether people are just joking/exaggerating.

With webcam monitoring and other checks, I’d assume it would be difficult to do? It would be interesting to know how assessment providers handle it, as it would be frustrating if people were gaining an unfair advantage and achieving high scores.

Awaiting E02 placement and currently struggling with current agency AO position.

Hey folks,

Ended up being successful in the E02 from February this year however I’m 1086 in the Merit list. I’ve been an agency AO through Recruitment Co. In Lisahally for nearly 2 years now and at this point I’m really struggling to soldier on until I get placed, the work is just relentless, every day my head is splitting once I finish from the pressure to meet SLA and I dread work almost every day, I have a great track record in there and get on with everyone really well, never had any problems in however if your stats drop an inch they’re onto you instantly. Every day there’s a “ok guys we need you working as hard as possible today SLA is tight” message in teams. Haven’t taken any time off this year and have just come back from a holiday which has been a slog to build up days for. It’s just gruellingly repetitive and high paced 24/7, I completely understand I’m here to work and work hard but it’s just really taking a toll, it’s such a convoluted process to book time off and they’re very strict about when you can book long periods. The long and short of it is, do you think it’s worth staying on and hope for my E02 placement before the end of the year or should I seek something elsewhere to tide me over until then. Sorry for the rant! Cheers.

AO Placements

Hiya,

This is about the AO competition with interviews in assembly buildings. Seeing some conflicting info where some are saying they’ve heard people are getting offers through but seems unclear if this is from the current comp?

I was <200 on the merit list, I know the timeline for hearing back is just “when you hear back” so not too concerned about this, but has anyone actually been offered a place yet?

AO merit list May

I’ve read everyone’s merit list positions from previous posts, and also read that multiple people can hold the same position. I scored mid 700s, which would mean there could be atleast 1000 people ahead of me?

So I’m kinda just posting this for clarity purposes and wondering if there is even a chance that I get offered a job, and how high or slim this chance may be?

Everyone that got their placements last week, what was your merit position, trying to figure out how many they sent out and what they are currently on as they don’t seem to want to reply, thanks

Would you pick UC or Child Maintenance to work in?

A friend got a AO placement under AWP.

The letter stated UC but when they arrived they were told it's child maintenance, and that it was all under the same umbrella but they could choose UC if they wanted. Was told the hours would be "tent pole" hours and no WFH for 6 months

Anybody have any experience working for UC or CMS are have any advice on what department to choose (if they do indeed have an opportunity to pick) or any insight as the tent pole hours isn't something I'm familiar with

Thanks

EO2 Starting in JBOs

There's a good few of us in here who started their new EO2 post in JBOs on Monday, how are you finding it so far? Were you assigned the role of Work Coach? Interested to hear how others are getting on.

What’s the next steps after you get a job offer?

Waiting on AO offer and was just curious what’s the process when you get the offer. Do they ask for references and do they still do a IQ test or numeracy test. Thanks in advance

On the AO Merit list waiting for placement

I'm on the AO Merit list waiting for my placement letter, I have just came across the HMRC advert on Indeed for AO positions, should I just wait or should I apply for that too, what are people's views on where is the better place to work? I'm coming from the private sector so new too these government jobs

Sickness Policy

Unfortunately I've had a bad run healthwise over the last year and had to take a bit of time off work, I'm due to undergo a further surgery in the next few months which will require further time off.

A colleague had mentioned a policy whereby if you have over 6 months accumulated sick days over 5 years, your pay is reduced by half.

Would anyone be able to shed any light on whether this is true or what the actual policy is.

Things to revise for the Staff Officer assessments?

I've done the practice questions but would really like to do more before taking the official tests. Are there certain areas that I could read up on? Other tests I could practice?

Or obvs the questions would be great too.

Asking About Your New Role Without Doxxing Yourself

I've noticed quite a few posts recently asking, "What's X branch/team like?" after receiving an offer. There's absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to know what you're walking into, but just be mindful that you may be unintentionally doxxing yourself.

NICS is a much smaller place than many people realise. Offers often go out in small batches, sometimes to only one or two people. If you post your exact branch, grade and department, there's a fair chance someone already working there could work out who you are. If they click your Reddit profile, your entire posting history is there to see.

If you're already internal, another option is simply reaching out to someone who works in that area once you start, or asking around through your own network. You'll probably get a more accurate picture than Reddit can provide, without identifying yourself publicly.

The reality is you'll often get fairly generic answers anyway: "Operations/CMS is awful" or "Projects and policy are much better." There can be some truth in those stereotypes, but they're far from fact. Every area has good teams and not-so-good teams. A role people rave about can be a poor fit for you, while one that gets criticised might end up being exactly what you're looking for.

It might also be worth the subreddit having a dedicated thread for people to ask about roles more generally. That way, people can still get advice and insight without potentially identifying themselves before they've even started.

Clare House - DoF

Hi guys, anyone here work in Clare House? I’ve been offered a role there and was just wondering what the vibe is like. Is the office and facilities nice? Is there a gym?

I’ll be working with the DoF, so I’m also curious what the hybrid working arrangements are like.

Thanks in advance!
