How to manage debt - should I overpay?

Hi

I have two loans at the moment, and I’m looking to find out if it’s worthwhile me overpaying them or what plan I should take to get my finances in control.

Loan 1 - total amount of loan was £28,000. Monthly repayment is £445. Interest rate 8.9%, but that’s already factored into the monthly repayments. It’s over 8 years and due to be repaid in full in December 2033.

Loan 2 - total loan was £15,500. Monthly repayment is £270. Interest rate is 7.9%, with it already factored into monthly payments. It’s over 6 years and due to finish in July 2032.

I’ve started a new job and take home around £2700 per month. I have £500 in savings, £1000 in EF, I have around £2.5k in sinking funds.

I have an additional almost £1000 per month available for saving / repaying debt.

Can I get people’s advice on how I should tackle this? Should I save this money and just do normal monthly repayments or should I throw all at debt? Or do a mix until savings are a certain level?

I work in the public sector so my job is secure. I don’t know that my emergency fund or savings are enough.
