PFL/FMLA [NY]

I'm not sure if this is the right forum to post this but on July 13th I applied to PFL due to my parent having a serious condition. Currently I am taking off intermittently 2 days per week likely until October (approved until January 14th, but will likely not have a need after October).

I did not calculate the "amount of days" I'd be using but probably safe to say 6-7 weeks. However, I do have a IVF transfer in a few months in which due date would be end of July. What would happen if baby came before July 13th? I know I get 6 weeks of STD, so in theory would the date PFL/FMLA really kicks in 6 weeks after giving birth?

For some background I get 12 weeks paid through my job, however because the first 6 weeks was STD the NYS PFL/FMLA did not kick in until 6 weeks post partum for a total of 18 weeks off. (12 100% pay, 6 weeks 67% PFL NYS). I'm just trying to plan according and potentially kick transfer to November if having a baby just a week shy of July 13th could lead to several weeks I may be missing out with baby.

First ocular migraine

27F and just had my first ocular migraine today and It was SO scary. I thought I was going blind as I never heard of this before or had one. After 10 minutes of seeing a zig zag "floater"/blurred out vision/vision got very narrow and couldn't see anything in my peripheral vision i called the eye doctor. The eye dr did a thorough exam a hour later and saw nothing wrong and even dialated my eyes.

Just 10 days ago I started a new birth control and noticed I've been extremely on edge, very bad mood swings, depressed, with through the roof anxiety. I don't have mental health issues and this all came out of no where (but really a few days after starting the pill). Last night I also couldn't sleep as I was very on edge. Is this likely what caused the ocular migraine? I also didn't get a headache immediately after this happened, but about 2-3 hours after the visual disturbance i got a migraine.

[NY] PFL question

I applied for PFL 2 weeks ago (July 13th) to care for a family member with a serious injury. That being said, we have an IVF transfer end of October with an intended July due date if everything goes as planned. I of course did not intent to take PFL right now, but also was not planning on family member having a serious injury as well. I will likely be using 6-8 weeks of PFL intermittently until the end of the year.

Should I plan to push transfer date to November? What happens if I have a baby prior to July 13th 2027 before benefits renew? For example, If baby came July 1st then can I reapply for PFL July 14th? Do I have to apply for it the date the baby is born or can I apply a few weeks after?

My employer offers 12 weeks of full pay, but with a vaginal delivery I really get 18 weeks off. Apparently because the first 6 weeks are STD, I do not have to use "state paid leave" but I do recall the last 6 weeks of my 18 week leave I did get 67% off state paid leave when I had my last baby.

Approved for PFL [NY]

My father had a serious injury that occurred in June and my dads doctor approved me for 3 days of intermittent leave until January 2027. However, he only needs me 2 days and likely only until November. He is unable to drive and I take him to appts. I work 10 hour shifts but for it to be considered PFL I need to take the full shift off. Since he only needs me for 2 days but I'm approved for 3 days, can I still technically take that 3rd day?

I know FMLA abuse is a thing, but in theory, will anything happen if I just take that 3rd day off every once in a while without actually caring for my dad or no since his doctor signed the paperwork as up to 3 days a week?

[NY] PFL

My dad was attacked by a pitbul and has been in and out of the hospital for 5 weeks. He has been there for the last week. He also cannot drive and has been going to multiple doctors per week and will start physical therapy soon. I have taken off of work for this 2.5 days being unscheduled to be with him in hospital and take him to an appt.

I know the process is going to take a few weeks to get approved but has anyone ever had issues with their PFL being denied for similar situations of family member being in hospital?
