My 13 year old gelding has always had a horse below him in the pecking order during turn out.

He’s not always been top of the herd, but always boss over someone.

His turn out buddy left, he was all alone, he has a 5 year old with him now that played nicely/mutual grooming in arena play sessions.

For the first 2 days they shared hay out of a hay net and mutually groomed all day.

Then the youngster started moving my guy around. No biting or kicking, just moving off hay to another pile, dominant.

Not sure if the new guy guards the water trough and shade under the tree, but I think maybe.

My horse seems fine with it, but I’m concerned that the change in status could stress him to the point of another EPM flare up.

So my husband and I were driving up a steep hill IN THE MIDDLE OF Griffith Park in LA WHERE THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ANYWHERE TO BENEFIT A HOMELESS PERSON WHO WOULD BE UNLIKELY TO BE RIDING A RACING BIKE IN A RACING BIKE OUTFIT JUST FOR SHITS AND GIGGLES. LIKE TO WHAT? WORK OUT??

We caught up with a man ON A RACING BIKE WEARING A RACING BIKE TOP AND SHORTS who can only be described as cadaverous riding his RACING bike uphill.

As we drove slowly next to him, we observed his unhealthy pallor. He was struggling so hard-he looked about 90.

WHY, we asked ourselves, would a homeless person carrying NO POSSESSIONS be riding a RACING BIKE, wearing a BIKING OUTFIT, up a hill to no-where at the hottest part of the day in the middle of frickin GRIFFITH PARK?

Here’s the weird part:

His clothes WHICH WERE A BIKE RACING TOP AND SHORTS were completely decayed. They were dirty, as from the grave, and the STRETCHY MATERIAL OF HIS RACING BIKE OUTFIT was completely “crazed” like old porcelain or a painting. It was flaked off in spots.

He didn’t glance over WHEN WE PASSED HIM SLOWLY SO AS TO NOT STARTLE HIM WHILE LOOKING AT HIM and we both knew immediately that we were looking at a re-animated dead person.

Horrifying.
