How do I F22 deal with my bf M25 having different values than me?
How do I deal with my bf M25 having different values than me? I’m F22 and I have always been an open minded person my whole life. I decided to put on the old sitcom show Martin while we chilled on the couch when the characters that plays martins neighbor came on screen he was shocked to see that it was Lawrence playing a woman. He started going on the rant about how disgusting that it was and how he’s heard talk in the news about how Hollywood has a gown woman playing role as a cult thing idk you guys lol. But I was like dawg EVERYONE has done that??? Tyler Perry, Adam Sandler, the wayans brothers??? Man Robert downy played a black man and as a black woman it was iconic. Like I feel as though that doesn’t make you a cult member ? He then gets into how he wasn’t raised to watch men in dresses. Oh. Okay. So now we’re getting into THAT territory yk? Mind you, we fresh. 5 months in and living together. Before we officially dated he knew I was more spiritual and free thinking. His dad is a pastor. So recently we’ve been having more religion based conversations in general. I seem to be more accepting of his values than mine. I’m afraid he views me as evils since I watch and practice what is considered “evil” to him. For example, we had a convo recently about how I don’t call the higher power I believe in “God” since I feel as tho they could go by many names. He says that calling God by any other name besides the ones listed in the Bible is not going to be saved or something like that. I refer to the higher power as Divinity or Mother Nature. I could go deeper into the convo bc there’s so many layers but you get the picture. So I wonder how relationships even survive with different values. I love him but I wish he’d be accepting of MY values as much as I am his. It seems like he’s always trying to convince me to think his way instead of recognizing that we have different values without trying to force them on each other
