Dusting off my PS3 again and I modded it years back. It's at 4.89 Evilnat CFW. Looking it up, there seems to be an entire process you need to follow to update to 4.93 and I have to ask, if I'm already at 4.89 is there any good reason for me to update? I heard somewhere that for online multiplayer you can spoof the version your PS3 THINKS it's running. Is that true? And if so, can I just edit a text file somewhere so I can play online multiplayer games on "the latest version" without updating?

Is there homebrew that's incompatible with old versions? It just seems like a pain to update and I wanna know if it's absolutely necessary first
