Is he dead?

Is my Japanese rhinoceros beetle (Trypoxylus dichotomus) pupa dead?
My pupa entered the pupal stage on June 6th, so it has been about a month.
At first, it would move slightly when touched, but now it doesn’t move at all.
It is still firm, not soft or leaking, but I’ve started noticing a strange rotten smell coming from it.
I attached photos of its current condition.
Is this normal near eclosion, or does it look like the pupa has died? Has anyone experienced something similar?
Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!
