He’s usually way too busy biting everything and exploring, so this feels like a big moment. I don’t want to move at all now
Talked to my vet today about neutering and he mentioned some newer research suggesting neutered dogs can actually be more anxious.
Pretty much every male dog I’ve met is neutered though, so now I’m curious what other shiba owners think about it.
Is your shiba neutered? If yes, what made you decide to do it? And if not, why did you decide against it?
I have a little boy and he’s still way too young for any of this, just trying to learn a bit more before I have to make the decision :)
First time dog owner here, and my Shiba puppy is just over 2 months old.
He’s honestly super smart and also… pretty strong-willed lol. He already gets his potty right about 90% of the time and goes on the pad, which I’m really proud of.
But obviously at this age he’s curious about EVERYTHING and wants to put his mouth on everything too 😭
I’m trying to figure out how to teach him that some things aren’t just “I’d rather you didn’t,” but are an absolute NO. Like electrical cables, getting too close to the oven when it’s on, and biting me.
Right now when he does something like that, I say “NO” in a pretty firm/serious voice. He usually stops and walks away very reluctantly. I feel like he definitely understands from my tone that I’m not happy with what he’s doing.
But next time he’ll try the exact same thing again. Sometimes he’ll even look at me first and then slowly go for it, like he’s checking whether the rule still applies 😂
So for experienced Shiba owners: how did you teach your dog where your actual boundaries are? Especially when they were puppies?
Do you just consistently say no + redirect them every single time until it eventually clicks? Or is there a better way to communicate “this thing is completely off limits” to a Shiba?
He doesn’t like any of them. I even got him an electric one that moves around by itself, and he just barks at it every time I try to play with him.
Marshmallow phrase is sooo cute
Saw this little buddy at Canning Town station.
So I just had a small “wait… what?” moment while watching The Devil Wears Prada 2 recently.
I’ve been learning English mostly through TV shows for a while, and one thing I picked up is how often people say “guys” — like, all the time. Men, women, mixed groups… it felt totally natural and kind of like a gender-neutral word.
But in the movie, there was a moment that pointed out that in professional settings, using “guys” might not be the best choice, and that more neutral terms like “people,” “everyone,” or “team” are preferred instead.
That honestly surprised me 😅 I always thought “guys” was basically neutral in modern usage.
Now I’m wondering:
- Is “guys” actually considered informal rather than inappropriate?
- Do native speakers consciously avoid it at work, or does it depend on the workplace culture?
What do you usually say instead in meetings or emails?
Curious to hear how you all use it in real life!
