Children allowed to bring iPads to daycare. I am the bad guy because I don’t allow them on their iPads.

Every center and school I have worked for has disallowed students from bringing iPads from home to use.

I just recently joined a new center, and they allow the kids to bring iPads and use them for games and watching videos, etc. I generally do not like non school or center issued gadgets because I can monitor what they are doing on them.

I teach 3-4 years and they get enough screen time at home also it’s best practice not to allow kids on iPads that young. I also don’t want that liability if the ipad gets broken or whatever.

When my co teacher is in the room she allows them. But like I said I can’t monitor what everyone is doing on their tablets so I don’t allow it if it’s just me in the room.

I am now the bad guy because I don’t allow it. It baffles me that the director even ok’d something like this.

I just failed the OA for it. I got exemplary on the PA and only missed one question. I was feeling confident so I book an on demand for the OA. I failed. The OA was nothing like the PA.

I wouldn’t go by the PA as an indicator for what’s going to come up for the OA. The wording for the questions and answers were also tricky.

I’m really bummed out that I didn’t pass. I rarely get exemplary on the PAs so I really felt secure in the material.

I recently resigned from job and looking for temp positions because I want to nurse my mental health back from hell. But I still need money for bills so I am looking into subbing. I have used hello subs in the past but lately a lot of their assignments have been far away from me.

Its seems like a decent service but I am just curious if anyone here has used them past or present before I started taking assignments.

Update: I emailed to get clarification on the 2nd hour and it is an unpaid hour. So it’s going to be a heck no for me. I really liked the center but the hours and 2 hour break and 1 them is unpaid labor is a deal breaker. I am honestly surprised the employees there are ok with it.

I was recently offered a job at a neighborhood daycare with decent pay. They have aspects of the program I like. One of them is being flexible in lesson planning, classroom decor, and organization ( I am coming from a corporate daycare where I felt like my teaching creativity was dying). They even have a cut-off time at this daycare, which is another plus. At my last center, kids came in at all times of day.

However, the hours are the only thing making me pause from taking this position. It’s a 7-5 with a 2-hour break. It’s a 40-minute commute (I have to take public transport) , so it would mean leaving the house at 6 am and not getting home until 6 pm. I also have a kid, so I feel like I wouldn’t have any time to spend with them.

Another thing that also confused me that I have to get clarity on is that the director said its a 2 hour break but one of those hours need to be used for cleaning and other classroom tasks. That sounds like an unpaid hour of labor to me. Because she kept saying 2 hour break why the specifications on one of those hours.
