Niall's Crack Addiction?

Niall's Crack Addiction?

In a Hollywood Reporter interview with Richard Gadd about the then upcoming 4th episode it was revealed that Niall was a crack addict ontop of his cottaging escapades. I wonder why they didn't end up showing it or talking about it in episode 4? Niall developing a drug addiction while at Oxford due to a multitude of things like the high stress enviroment, not fitting in and feeling out of place like he did at the other university, not having Ruben there, guilt over Alby, the aftermath of the courtcase, Lori & Maura, struggling with writing, etc. would have made his paranoia about Ruben coming after him, all the things he did as a result of said paranoia, and his subsequent downward spiral afterwards make much more sense than it being chalked up to Niall merely being afraid of Ruben because of his blowup in court about making him ugly. It also would make his sex addiction fit. Niall gets into a rehab, paid for by Ruben, gets clean but is still very much an addict so he switches to having sex with multiple different men in public places to feel that high again. His drug addiction and cost of his rehab could have been something Ruben holds over his head or something Ruben can still use to manipulate him into doing his bidding when he tells Niall in the episode 5 preview that he was coming to collect his debt or it could have been the reason Niall borrows money from him in the first place in episode 5 as opposed to it being because of the librarian blackmailing him. Idk maybe I'm just talking out of my ass. What do you guys think?

For the people mentioning the Fight Club scenario

I think you're onto something. That line from Niall in the hospital room "To look the way you look, to fuck the way you fuck" was taken straight from Tyler's line in the hotel room scene when the narrator figures it out.
