Magnesium calcium ratio + ancestral diets?

I'm not fully carnivore, but I've been reading about magnesium because I think I might be deficient in it. It seems that the recommended calcium to magnesium ratio is 2:1, with the recommended amount for magnesium being 420mg a day. I've been looking at the amount of magnesium in different cuts of meat, organ meats, dairy, vegetables, etc, and I just cannot wrap my head around how you are supposed to hit that 420mg of magnesium.

For example, ground beef is said to have around 5mg of magnesium per ounce, meaning that if you ate a pound of ground beef a day, you would be getting 80mg of magnesium. Fortunately, that same ground beef also has 5mg of calcium per ounce, so at least the calcium to magnesium ratio is reasonable.

I'm just struggling to see how ancestrally, humans would have consumed anywhere near 420mg of magnesium from just meat. Would this necessitate the consumption of nuts or other sources of magnesium?

Natural deodorant?

Hey all,

Following the logic that applying synthetic chemicals to the scalp is not good because the scalp absorbs those things, I've been looking for a way to get away from the typical deodorant sticks that contain a bunch of things in them.

The problem for me is, even directly after showering with just hot water (or body soap) applied to my armpits (which still have some hair, although trimmed down), my armpits still smell very musky whenever I sweat (which is pretty much all the time).

Right now, I've just been avoiding applying deodorant when I'm staying indoors and not interacting with people, and applying deodorant on the days that I do have to go outside. This isn't a great solution long-term though, and I was hoping some of you might have a homemade alternative (similar to the different hair-washing routines people have created involving eggs or apple cider vinegar or etc).

[edit: I should also note that on a normal day, I only wash my body with hot water with a somewhat healthier body soap applied sparingly to my pits, privates, anywhere that traps sweat and smell. My body itself does not smell, it is just my armpits that have an extremely strong musk. I am very aware of that smell and trust me, I do not want to go walking around being stinky and disgusting!..]

Ground beef with added organs?

I've been grinding my own ground beef using stuff like brisket, which has been fantastic so far. Loads of delicious fat, keeps a lot of the tendons and has a nice chew to it.

For my next batch, I'm thinking about including some organ meats, and I was curious to hear from anyone who does this regularly. I've only had beef liver so far in the form of liver and onions (which was very iron-y and hard to keep down), I haven't tried heart or kidneys or anything else.

First question I suppose is, what does beef heart taste like? Does it have that same iron-y characteristic of liver? For blending into ground beef, is there any preference as for using liver or heart (or both)? What percentage by weight of these organ meats can I include in my ground beef before the taste of organ meats becomes perceptible? I think I might experiment with a smaller sub-batch of ground beef with maybe a small percentage of organ meat, and work my way up, but any guidance would be massively appreciated.

For the record, my current favorite way of eating ground beef has been just cooking it down and giving it some mild flavor with soy sauce, so I can very much so taste the flavor of beef (and any included organ meats?). I assume that if I make something with more dominant flavors, like Italian meatballs, then I could probably get away with more organ meats without adverse effects?

Reminiscing on early hermitcraft (been here since season 1!)

I am here to brag about having watched since season 1! I first found hermitcraft through watching Xisuma's season 1 episodes, which if you've ever seen those episodes you would be surprised that people would watch Xisuma's dreary voice back then, let alone a little child like me lol. I guess it wasn't a problem for me though and I remember being super fond of Xisuma.

Some of my favorite memories from the time:

  1. Tea Eaters Agency (T.E.A), formed by Xisuma and Biffa (another of my longtime favorite hermits!), their infiltration of GenerikB's base with its complex security mechanisms, pranking GenerikB's base (which was inside a mountain in a jungle if I remember correctly) by placing fences filling up every air space.
  2. Biffa's season 1 base where he drained a giant section of ocean, looked like a giant bowl or colosseum. Another of my favorite bases was Biffa's museum of all things in season 3. Just had to shout out Biffa, underappreciated OG hermit :-)
  3. Hermitcraft season 3 amplified, the entire hermit hills area with everyone's starter bases was so amazing, honestly I can't pick a favorite base from that season. I think season 3 was also the first season where they made a whole minigame district-type thing, which has basically become a staple of every season since then. I remember Tango making really awesome minigames although I don't remember the specifics of it anymore except that it had something to do with TNT I think?
  4. Hermitcraft season 4 mesa-fied, was really cool seeing everyone build bridges and terraform the orange (ugly) mesa terrain into more visually appealing terrain. Also was the introduction of many core hermits like Cubfan, Scar, Rendog, etc!

I watch pretty much every hermit that is active these days, especially since the in-game voice chat was added a few seasons ago everyone has become so social and I've really become obsessed with every hermit and the friendships they share. But to highlight my favorite most-watched hermits of the early Hermitcraft era (of which some are still active!), here's a list:

Xisuma, Biffa, GenerikB, Monkeyfarm, KingDaddyDMAC, xBCrafted, Hypnotized, Jessasin, Keralis, Sl1pg8r, Zueljin, Tangotek, ImpulseSV

[I also want to make a point that this list is only the hermits I watched at the time, but I also watched a lot of Mindcrack in the day which would include our favorite New Hermit Order (NHO) transfer hermits Etho, Docm, Vintagebeef, BdoubleO]

If any of you guys were around in those days and have memories to share, I'd love to hear them! Since the hermitcraft community has exploded in popularity over the last decade, I think any OG viewers would be a small small minority at this point. I would consider seasons 1-3 to be classic Hermitcraft, 4-5 to be pre-modern, and 6 and onwards to be the modern era.
