My dad can’t drive anymore, and it made me realize a gap in my community; would this business idea make sense?

Hey everyone, I’m looking for some honest feedback on a business idea I’ve been thinking about.

My dad has medical issues that keep him from driving, and over the past year I’ve seen how hard it is for him to get to appointments, the store, church, or even just visit family. He doesn’t use Uber, he doesn’t trust random drivers, and he needs someone patient enough to help him get in and out of the car safely.

It made me realize there’s a huge gap between “he’s totally independent” and “he needs full‑time care.” A lot of seniors fall right in that middle area — they just need safe, reliable transportation from someone they trust.

So I’ve been considering starting a non‑medical senior transportation service in my city. Nothing medical, nothing awkward, nothing inside the exam room. Just:

  • Pick up
  • Help them get in the car
  • Drive them safely
  • Drop them off at the entrance
  • Come back when they’re done

Basically a professional, consistent alternative to Uber for elderly people.

I’m not trying to be a caregiver or get involved in medical conversations. I just want to offer something that helps seniors stay independent and gives families peace of mind. And honestly, it’s something I’d feel proud doing because of my dad.

My questions for you all:

  • Is this something you think people would actually pay for?
  • Do you see demand for this in your area?
  • Would you trust a service like this more than Uber/Lyft for your parents/grandparents?
  • Any red flags or things I’m not thinking about?

I’m not trying to pitch anything — just trying to figure out if this is a real need or if I’m overthinking it. Appreciate any honest thoughts.
