Unilateral cataract surgery at 38 - would love to hear stories from similar unilateral patients!
Hello! I'm starting the research on my options for a unilateral cataract surgery. I am 38 and do not want to rely on multiple types of vision correction. I currently wear contacts for distance but have my near vision still in tact. My non-cataract eye is currently showing no signs of cataract, which adds complication to the decision.
I have visited two surgeons, one last year who told me that I wasn't a good candidate for multifocal, and recommended correcting closer to my natural eye with a monofocal and relying on vision correction. Another who is STRONGLY recommending the panoptix pro multi-focal (he was pretty adamant given my lifestyle and age and said most of his patients have seen incredible results - including his mom). I know there's a big risk for glare and unsatisfactory results from a multi-focal, but when you take into account my age, and lifestyle factors (I work at a desk on a computer, need to drive to pick up my kids, don't want to wear reading glasses for every task or seeing them up closely) I'm starting to see that the trade-offs of a multi-focal might be worth the risk. of halos
I would love to hear from patients who have had one eye corrected with a multi-focal lens. Did your good eye help with any glares and halos? He mentioned that if Im having trouble adjusting I could do my other eye electively, but that does not feel appealing to me right now.
I have a third consult in another couple of months with another doctor who I believe may carry a broader suite of multifocal (I asked if they work with J&J over the phone). My combined vision is fine now but I believe I will probably go for surgery in the next 6 months.
Thank you! I know many of you have left stories before! All the subs are a lot to read through and it's difficult to know exactly what peoples experiences are.
