TOO MANY BANNERS, OR NOT ENOUGH? - The producer of Holodori just gave a lengthy interview on the game design. I try to summarize the most interesting points

First, obviously you should read the original interview if you can. Most modern browsers should be able to translate okay-ish these days
https://news.denfaminicogamer.jp/interview/260930h

My summary only covers what I think Holofans care about most. The interview also has a lengthy, interesting discussion of the rhythm gameplay design.

Gacha

  • Each Holomem will get 2 outfit banners each year.
  • Each Holomem will eventually get their own swimsuit.
  • Admitted that the pace of new banners is rather fast, but that's because they want to satisfy even the fans who just pull for their one and only oshi.
  • They are increasing the rate of free diamonds.
  • They will not debut a new banner during a Holomem's Birthday or Anniversary because they want fans to enjoy those occasions direectly with the Holomems themselves, whether via watching streams or buying merchs.
  • Original goal was "No Holomem will get a 2nd outfit banner until everyone has gotten their 1st outfit banner"
  • BUT this will change in Dec 2026 because:
    • The game was released one month later than planned.
    • This also pushed every banner's schedule 1 month later (hence swimsuit banners in late Sept)
    • All Holomems were supposed to get their first banner by Nov 2026
    • But now those are pushed to Dec, which conflict with the second wave that absolutely has to be released during that time (i.e Xmas outfits)
    • So, those Xmas banners will be released first, leading to some Holomems having 2nd outfit banner before others have gotten their 1st ones.
  • Why no Justice or Flow Glow yet:
    • They actually had to push hard just to finish ReGLOSS before release, along with other big changes (implied to be the graduated Holomems)
    • Developement for each Holomem actually takes a long while, as they needed time to understand the inside jokes and memes and characteristics of each new Holomem.
    • They promised that they will deliver "something great" for the rest, and asked us to please be patient.

Goal of the game

  • They want to make sure that every Holomem feels like a main character of the game.
  • Holodori is not a rhythm game, but rather a rhythm/RPG.
  • The vision is “a game that Hololive fans who aren’t good at rhythm games can also enjoy,” while also being “a game on a large enough scale that people outside the fandom will pick it up.”
  • The game director drew inspirations from himself, who loves Monster Hunter despite being bad at action games.

Other tidbits

  • When Noel's Swimsuit illustration arrived from the artist, they thought it would be too scandalous, but both Cover and Noel gave them the go-ahead
  • The chibi models originally were a lot more "deformed" but they reduced the size of the head and make the limbs longer so that the models can be more expressive and cuter.
  • The 2025 graduations hit them hard, not just because they had to change the game and shelved many already-finished outfit designs , but many people in the team are fans of those Holos too, and they all got rather depressed.
  • More areas and mini games to come, as they consider it something other rhythm games don’t do. The rhythm part will always remain a priority, of course.

Fun fact about Riona: She's a huge fan of Western musicals, and her #1 dream in Hololive is to create a Hololive musical

You need to read this issue to see the most creative, and also the most evil, way so far to "defeat" an Asgardian God [The Mortal Thor 13]

It went so much further, and so much worse, beyond these 3 pages

The constant dialogue during fights has always been a pet peeve of mine, so this scene is particularly cathartic and refreshing to me, even if it's meant to be "wrong" [Avengers Armageddon #2]
