The Overseas 4520V: Almost Perfect
Almost one week in on my Overseas, and now I can start to nitpick a little. I know others have asked on some of these, but there's no explanation that I've seen:
1.) WHY didn't they put a hacking seconds hand function? VC, one of the best watchmakers in the world, absolutely knows how to do this. I love to set my watch to reference time and see how well it does, and I can't feed that OCD desire! Also, the "back play" trick where you can cheat to hack the seconds (probably not good for it) doesn't work on this watch.
2.) For the watch to be so refined otherwise, why is the lume so lackluster? This watch costs over $30k USD after taxes, and there's a generous amount of area that they could slather some grade "A" lume, so what gives?! Even with a sunlight charge, it's nowhere near the torch of my other watches--especially Rolex.
3.) Perhaps I need to play around with removing one of the links closer to the case, but I am finding myself a little in between sizes, depending on how my wrist expands. Kinda same on the rubber strap.
4.) I wish the case were even just 1mm thinner--and 2mm would be perfect. It still wears phenomenally well overall! I know the new six-figure price tag platinum limited edition fits this description perfectly, but I don't have platinum money yet, or maybe never!
These are just little gripes in the grand scheme. This is a very special piece! While I would love an Aquanaut, Nautilus, or Royal Oak, I think this watch combines all of those elements into one watch that is in sum more versatile... plus I'll likely never get the call for those anyway. That makes VC a more attractive enthusiasts' high horology brand that is actually attainable, both at retail and grey market, for pricing that isn't as eye popping.
