I think his defense team’s wording is kind of telling. They did not addresss any other allegations only the murder part.

They said he “did not murder Celeste” and was “not the cause of her death.” To me, that sounds like they might not be arguing he had nothing to do with anything. It sounds more like they may argue he did not cause her death.

My theory is they might say she overdosed or died some other way first considering they found drugs in her system, and then he panicked because of his relationship with a minor and tried to get rid of the body.

That would explain why they are focusing on “cause of death.” They could basically argue he may be guilty of something, but not murder.

Obviously, the problem for that argument is the medical examiner ruled her death a homicide from penetrating injuries. So the defense would probably have to argue those injuries happened after she was already dead.

I’m not saying this is what happened. I’m just saying the defense wording makes me think they are going to attack causation.
