Why is this so cheap?

Why is this so cheap?

Sales are under $700 for a high priced set? Genuinely wondering why

Prismatic Premium Box

I bought a sealed Prismatic Evolutions Premium Collection with the intention of holding it long-term. However, I just noticed there’s a hole in the shrink wrap (I’ll attach a photo).

I’m wondering what you guys would do in this situation.

Would you still keep it sealed despite the damaged wrap, or would you just open it and see what’s inside?

From an investment perspective, does a tear like this significantly hurt the long-term value, or is it still worth holding?

Curious to hear your thoughts and experiences.

Anyone have any background on what could be in the 5 cards, or if this a "rare" MJ concoction?

Bought this in Dec 2024 as part of a small ES collection, and now finally cataloging everything as my collection has grown...

This was in the collection and I couldn't find anything on it. Curious if what could be in the 5 cards or the rarity (if any) of this MJ concoction.

Thanks in advance, Reddit!

I Need Some Advice

Back story: So, I collected as a kid, from Base Set up to Neo Destiny, and then I fell out of the hobby until I started back up again sometime in the Sun & Moon releases. I fell out of the hobby again early in the SV releases and just started again when Perfect Order was released.

I collect for the joy of it, but I also care about getting the best bang for my buck because, eventually, I plan on selling my cards when I retire in about 20 years. At this point in time, the only cards I've ever sold/traded (besides when I was a stupid kid trading away cards for candy bars) are duplicates

The question I have is, what cards do you believe are undervalued? I am going to a card show today and would like advice on what to pick up that will (probably) increase in value the most.

The pictures I included are some of my more valuable cards from my vintage binder, and I will comment below with some of the more recent smaller collections that I am working on, in case anybody is curious.

Tips about collection

Hi guys, any tips on which card to add?

I have a small collection and wanted too add something long term.

I prefer single cards since i really love to have them instead of sealed product, honestly

Also, it's all negative since it's summer, right? (It's a +140€ on last month)

Mid to Long-Term Investment Advice | What’s Your 30th Anniversary Strategy?

I only recently returned to the Pokémon hobby, but I’ve spent a ridiculous amount of time researching the market, following releases, watching price movements, and learning from collectors and investors to build a modern portfolio. I’ve quickly accumulated a mix of sealed products, slabs, and future grading potentials, while enjoying a solid rip and sip session on new releases.

Rather than chasing vintage products that have already seen 10–20 years of growth, my strategy has been to focus on premium modern products that I believe could become the grails of the next decade.

My main targets have been:

Pokémon Center ETBs
Specialty holiday sets
Premium sealed products with limited print runs
Modern grails and singles I’m grading and holding long term (I’m hoping most of them come back as PSA 10s).

My thinking is that while vintage has proven itself, much of the explosive growth has already happened. If someone were starting today, wouldn’t it make more sense to identify tomorrow’s grails rather than pay yesterday’s prices?

One thing I’m debating is whether I should sell part of my current portfolio and go aggressively into the 30th Anniversary products. I already have pre-orders locked in at MSRP, so my portfolio is currently a bit overinflated because of the crazy pre-sale 30th pricing we’re seeing on Collectr app.

My approach is to invest with a 3–5 year horizon, only selling if I think another release has better long-term profit potential.

I know nobody has a crystal ball, and I’m genuinely interested in hearing different opinions not trying to claim this is the “right” strategy.
If you were starting from scratch in 2026 with a mid to long-term investment mindset:

Would you continue diversifying across premium modern products?

Would you go heavily into the 30th Anniversary?
If you already had a solid portfolio, would you sell part of it to increase your exposure?

Or am I missing a massive opportunity with vintage due to its genuine scarcity? Basic economics suggests limited supply combined with sustained demand should support stronger long-term appreciation.

Also if you’ve made it this far and are still with me…What would you sell in my collection?

I’d love to hear from experienced collectors, especially those who have been through previous anniversary releases.

Also…please don’t judge the portfolio too harshly! Collectr doesn’t support a lot of Japanese and Chinese sealed cases yet, so only the booster boxes show up. And the Pitch Black product is for my next rip and sip sesh!

Most of you wont make money in this hobby.

If you havent been successfully selling pokemon cards in the last 2-3 years MINIMUM you wont make it in this hobby. Most of you wont even make it until the year ends. That number you see on collector is a mirage if you cant sell.

Just got back from a 300 Table Card Show... Were in trouble.

No one is buying. Not even most hype cards are moving because people don't have the money to spend $300+ right now. I'm talking mostly about the slab market.

There are far more small vendors than serious buyers or major vendors. Most of those small vendors are sitting on the same limited inventory. The few people actually buying are paying around 80% of comps, max.

People need to stop pretending that refusing anything under 90% is realistic. Maybe that works if you're in a small market and a whale decides to buy you out. But in any major metro area, there's simply too much supply. Vendors have no reason to pay 90% when there are ten other people willing to sell for less. That's just basic market dynamics.

The exception is high-end inventory generally $1,000+ cards where competition for quality pieces is stronger.

And for anyone wondering, most vendors value modern PSA 9s the same as raw copies anyway. That's the reality of the market. People need to stop drinking the Kool-Aid.

Edit:

Just an FYI. I did sell all my slabs at 80% to a brick and mortar vendor at the show. My post was more to emphasize getting over market or market at card shows is a fantasy unless youre an outlier its not the norm.

Edit 2:

Just to add some context. Ive been to several shows this year dec/mar/may - vibes felt dif this time

Summer Slowdown?

Why is there no summer slowdown in vintage, but almost all modern is currently trending down? I don’t hold any modern cards myself but I keep seeing the charts when I go to the popular page on Collectr. I also heard that sealed always outperforms slabs but it doesn’t seem to be working that way lately. What are your thoughts?

Growing my collection

Slowly adding into my single booster pack collection. Just got the XY Ancient Origins and XY Evolutions. Anybody recommend any other good ones I can look out for?

Are these re sealed bundles?

Just going through my collection. Started to get paranoid about the seals on these prismatic booster bundles. Do you think they could be re sealed?

Summer slump or actual downturn?

No I dont think were crashing, no its not a doomer post but im being honest when I say I my current area is pretty flat. Noones really buying sealed on secondary market, noones buying singles. At the start of the year til about may I was selling constantly. Thoughts in your areas?

What is with Cubone?

Every single card of cubone has skyrocketed in price. Within the last month most cards have doubled or tripled in value. Im trying to get every Cubone, anyone’s thoughts on wether it will go down?

If I could only pick ONE!

Which would be best for short and long term gains if I could only buy one of these at the moment. I love BOTH sets so much but can unfortunately only get one at the moment.
Hidden fates etb I can get for $442
Paldean I can get for $423
