I think a lot of people including me misunderstood the movie annoucement
I’ve seen a lot of people saying that Hollywood/Amazon is going to completely rewrite The Mandela Catalogue, but do we actually have any evidence of that?
From everything that’s been announced so far:
Alex wrote the screenplay and is directing the movie.
The screenplay was already finished before it was pitched to studios.
Aaron B. Koontz said that the script was 100% Alex’s
He also said this isn’t Hollywood “watering down” the idea.
That doesn’t mean absolutely nothing can change during production. Every movie goes through revisions, scenes get shortened, dialogue gets tweaked, etc.
But based on what Aaron said, it doesn’t sound like Amazon bought the IP just to rewrite Alex’s story from scratch. It sounds like they bought Alex’s screenplay because they liked it.
Scott Stuber, Steven Spielberg/Amblin and Amazon MGM are producing and financing the movie, but as far as we know, Alex is still both the writer and director.
Obviously we don’t know the details of his contract, so nobody can say how much creative control he has.
I just think it’s a little early to assume Hollywood has already ruined the movie when one of the producers is publicly saying the exact opposite.
What do you guys think?
