Never pay for an annual subscription

For several months I operated a creator account on DeviantArt, during which the platform monetized my artwork through subscriber-only premium galleries. DeviantArt accepted subscription payments from users and retained commissions from those transactions.

The platform actively promoted and encouraged me to upgrade to an annual PRO subscription plan using discounted upgrade offers. I accepted the upgrade and paid for the annual subscription using revenue that had been generated directly through DeviantArt’s own monetization system and subscriber payments.

Approximately two days after the annual subscription upgrade, DeviantArt permanently terminated the account without prior warning and without offering an opportunity to remove or correct the allegedly problematic content.

The content cited by DeviantArt had already existed on the platform for an extended period, had passed upload moderation systems, and had remained monetized prior to the termination decision.

As a result:

  • I lost access to the paid annual service almost immediately after payment;
  • approximately 29 paying subscribers lost access to over 80 premium galleries they had already purchased access to;
  • and DeviantArt retained both subscription revenue and commissions despite terminating the service unilaterally.

I attempted multiple times to resolve the matter professionally through customer support. Responses appeared automated, dismissive, and ultimately ceased entirely without meaningful review or resolution.

My concern is the commercial fairness of:

  • monetizing content over an extended period,
  • encouraging additional paid subscription upgrades,
  • accepting annual subscription payment,
  • and then terminating service almost immediately afterward while refusing any proportional refund.
