Final year BCA student feeling completely lost. Should I do MCA, switch careers, or what should I do next?

I desperately need some career guidance. Please help.

I’m currently in the last semester of my BCA, and honestly, I feel completely confused about my future right now.

I know the basics of programming, but I’m not very confident in my skills yet. The current job market is also really discouraging. In my college placements, most companies that came were for sales or marketing roles. Very few technical companies visited, and only around 3–4 students got selected in those. Most others accepted sales jobs, but I didn’t take one because I’m simply not interested in sales or marketing.

Right now, I’m unemployed and feeling stuck.

I also could not get any internship despite trying for a long time. Everywhere they either ask for experience, strong skills, or referrals, and as a fresher it has become really difficult.

Because of this, I started thinking about pursuing MCA so that I don’t completely waste this year. I feel that after MCA, I’ll at least become eligible for better companies and opportunities. But now I’m confused about where to go and what decision would actually be right for me.

The biggest mistake I made was not giving NIMCET or CUET this year. Earlier, my plan was to first do internships, gain some experience, and then prepare properly for entrances next year. But things didn’t go as planned. The situation at home also became difficult due to some family issues, and I got mentally distracted for a long time.

Now I’m stuck between these options:

  1. Should I take a drop/gap year and prepare seriously for NIMCET, CUET, and other entrance exams?

  2. Or should I take admission in MCA this year itself?

  3. Which MCA colleges still have admissions open and also provide decent placements at an affordable cost?

  4. I’m also confused whether I should continue in tech or switch careers entirely.

I’m from Rajasthan, so I’m more comfortable in North India, but I’m open to South Indian colleges too if the fees and living costs are manageable and placements are genuinely good.

Another confusion is MCA vs MBA.

I’m interested in fields like Business Analyst or Data Analyst roles, and I know both MCA and MBA can lead there. But MBA feels much more expensive for me right now, and I would also need to take a gap year for preparation. MCA seems more affordable and practical at this stage, but I don’t know if I’m making the right decision.

I would genuinely appreciate guidance from anyone who has been in a similar situation or has knowledge about MCA colleges, placements, or career paths.

Please suggest colleges, entrance exams, realistic options, or even whether taking a gap year would be worth it.

Thank you for reading.
