Pixel Fold 1st gen cover screen not displaying after full battery drain
Hi all,
I've been having a weird issue with my Pixel Fold 1st gen and it just got worse so I figured I'd ask here.
For the past few months the cover screen would randomly go black and unresponsive. Sometimes it was the inner screen instead. Always random, always fixed by a reboot, so I never stressed about it.
This morning the phone died completely at 0% and since I charged it back up the cover screen just won't come back. Inner screen works fine though.
The strange part is that it's definitely not a dead panel. When I boot the phone the cover screen lights up and shows the Google logo normally. Then Android finishes loading and it goes black and stays there.
I've tried force rebooting, safe mode, resetting app preferences and checking if there was some display toggle that got flipped. Nothing worked.
The phone is refurbished and I've had it for several months so I'm probably past the Backmarket warranty. Before I look into repair options I wanted to check if anyone here has seen this before. Any ADB tricks or hidden settings worth trying?
EDIT: SOLVED (sort of)
Thanks to the replies here. Turns out this is a known bug introduced by a recent software update affecting the Pixel Fold 1st gen.
Temporary fix that worked for me: install Fold Switcher (available on F-Droid or GitHub). Open the app, tap "Rear Display" or "REAR_DISPLAY_OUTER_DEFAULT" and the cover screen comes back instantly. No Shizuku needed, works in user mode out of the box. Link: https://github.com/eiyooooo/Fold_Switcher check bien le contenu
Not a permanent fix but at least the phone is usable again. Still waiting on Google to push a proper patch.
