Removing carrier SIM lock from RMAd Pixel

Hi all,

At the end of 2025, I sent my Pixel 9 pro fold to Google through an extended warrantee they provided on a battery charge issue. The 9 I sent in had originally been bought through Verizon and was unlocked by them shortly after the sale so I could use it with T-Mobile.

The RMA I recieved is a Pixel 10 pro fold that is also carrier locked to Verizon.

I have reached out to Google and Verizon support multiple times to get this phone unlocked.

-Google maintains they have no way to provide a SIM unlock code. Only Verizon can provide it

-Verizon has said it is unlocked and just needs to be connected to a Verizon cell tower to recieve the code

-I have inserted a Verizon SIM and called Verizon to have them send the code again, just in case it timed out

-Verizon maintains that it is not locked in their system and they cannot help me further

-I have reached back out to google who have even suggested they send me another RMA that I might have better luck unlocking, but they simply do not have a way to send me an unlocked phone or provide an unlock code.

I believe the Verizon issue stems from the fact that they didn't actually sell the 10 to me. They have no record of this phone at all, as far as I'm aware. Google would be the "seller" by way of RMA.

As far as I know, SIM carrier locks are meant to prevent theft of phones that are not paid off or stolen in transit. They placed a hold on my credit card for the full retail price of the 10 that has been released for 5 months, ever since they recieved and inspected my 9.

What do I do here? I've had this phone for 5 months now, unable to use it.

I'm at a point where, come summer, I might just trade it in for some new flagship that comes unlocked. Maybe I will have Google send me another RMA for me to flip to Ebay...

Ideally I would just get this 10 working and be happy for the next 2 years.

Thanks in advance!

Google Pixel Care+ replacement (Pixel 10 Pro Fold upgrade) reversed after Google received my device — anyone dealt with this?

I’m trying to see if anyone else has dealt with this with Google Pixel Care+.

I have a Pixel 9 Pro Fold with active Pixel Care+ coverage.

My phone has an intermittent issue where it randomly reboots and sometimes will not power back on for hours. I documented the issue with screenshots and initiated what I understood to be a replacement claim.

I was originally given the option for advanced replacement (temporary ~$2,000 credit card hold), which I declined, so I chose the standard mail-in replacement process instead.

I was then informed the replacement would be a Pixel 10 Pro Fold upgrade, which I accepted.

Google received the device, but after inspection they said they could not reproduce the issue and canceled the replacement, saying the phone would be sent back instead.

Now support is saying I may have to receive the same device back, experience the issue again, and potentially start another claim.

My issue is:

  • This started as a replacement workflow, not a standard repair
  • I was specifically told I’d be receiving a Pixel 10 Pro Fold replacement
  • The problem is intermittent, so not reproducing it during inspection doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist
  • Google already has the device
  • I rely on this phone for work and I’m also a caregiver for my disabled daughter, so repeated shipping delays are a huge hardship

They’ve now offered a supervisor callback after hours of back-and-forth.

Has anyone had Google reverse an approved replacement after receiving the device? Did escalation help?

Battery Question Mark

Good day,

I'm in the USA and got the battery question mark while plugged in P9PF and unfolded. It does revert back to the regular battery icon after a bit; didn't see how long it took. Quick reddit search and saw people send in for the extended warranty. I did that and got this response.

Has anyone got this response back when sending their phone in?

Phone Experience

Just got the pixel 10 fold and I'm struggling to answer an incoming call when the phone is unlocked and I'm using some other app. The iPhone always took over the whole screen with the inbound call and I want that option. I'm in sales (and not technical) and just want the phone to take over what I'm doing so I don't miss a call.

What's Your Battery Capacity?

I've had my Pixel 9 Pro Fold since the release date. I admit I probably charge my phone too often. I'm never far away from a charger. After 2 yrs, am I killing my battery?

Pixel Fold 1st gen cover screen not displaying after full battery drain

Hi all,
I've been having a weird issue with my Pixel Fold 1st gen and it just got worse so I figured I'd ask here.

For the past few months the cover screen would randomly go black and unresponsive. Sometimes it was the inner screen instead. Always random, always fixed by a reboot, so I never stressed about it.

This morning the phone died completely at 0% and since I charged it back up the cover screen just won't come back. Inner screen works fine though.

The strange part is that it's definitely not a dead panel. When I boot the phone the cover screen lights up and shows the Google logo normally. Then Android finishes loading and it goes black and stays there.

I've tried force rebooting, safe mode, resetting app preferences and checking if there was some display toggle that got flipped. Nothing worked.

The phone is refurbished and I've had it for several months so I'm probably past the Backmarket warranty. Before I look into repair options I wanted to check if anyone here has seen this before. Any ADB tricks or hidden settings worth trying?

EDIT: SOLVED (sort of)

Thanks to the replies here. Turns out this is a known bug introduced by a recent software update affecting the Pixel Fold 1st gen.

Temporary fix that worked for me: install Fold Switcher (available on F-Droid or GitHub). Open the app, tap "Rear Display" or "REAR_DISPLAY_OUTER_DEFAULT" and the cover screen comes back instantly. No Shizuku needed, works in user mode out of the box. Link: https://github.com/eiyooooo/Fold_Switcher check bien le contenu

Not a permanent fix but at least the phone is usable again. Still waiting on Google to push a proper patch.

April 2026 update bricked my €1899 Pixel Fold (Hall-Sensor/f2fs error). Support refuses RMA because I live in Belgium. Need escalation. Case [2-7279000041331]

Hi everyone,

I am writing this post in the hope of reaching a Google Community Manager or an Advanced Support team member, as my interactions with regular Google One Support (including their Tier 2 escalated team) have hit a complete brick wall.

The Issue: Immediately following the official April 2026 security update, my 1st Gen Pixel Fold entered a bootloop on the Google logo.

Key Diagnostic Observations:

  • Bootloop & Fold-State: The device remains in a bootloop on the Google logo when fully closed or fully opened.
  • Tent Mode Success: The device only successfully boots into Android when held in "Tent Mode" (partially unfolded).
  • Display Functionality: Only the internal screen is functional during a normal boot sequence, unless the hall-sensor status is manually bypassed or forced.
  • Front Display Integrity: I want to be very clear that the front (external) display is NOT broken. I have been able to verify that the front screen is fully functional by manually bypassing/forcing the hall-sensor status. The issue is strictly with the sensor's ability to trigger the display switch, not the display panel itself.
  • Internal Display: The internal screen also works perfectly once the device has booted in Tent Mode.

Troubleshooting Performed:

  • Full Factory Image Flash: Reinstalled the complete OS via the Android Flash Tool.
  • Factory Data Reset: Performed via Recovery Mode.
  • Result: The software is 100% clean, confirming this is a hardware-sensor communication error triggered or surfaced around the time of the latest update. The recovery logs also explicitly surface underlying f2fs and libfs_mgr state errors.

The Support Failure: I have provided all logs and photos. Google Support acknowledges the technical details but refuses to issue an RMA or authorize a repair simply because I permanently reside in Belgium, even though the device was bought via the official Google Store in Germany (within the EU Single Market).

Their "highest tier" automated solution? "Send the device to the original country of purchase for further assessment and support to your friends or family." This makes zero logical sense:

  1. The device was purchased in August 2023, meaning the standard 2-year warranty has expired. Sending it to Germany won't magically revive an expired warranty.
  2. Support refuses to provide a service center address, an RMA number, or any official procedure. They are literally asking me to ship a bricked €1899 flagship across borders with zero documentation.

I have been a loyal Google supporter since the iconic G1 and Nexus eras. In fact, I went out of my way to personally buy this Pixel Fold directly from the German Google Store—just as I previously did with other devices from the UK and Germany—solely because Google chose not to make them available in Belgium. I took these extra steps purely out of passion for the Pixel ecosystem. Our entire household now runs on it: Pixel Fold, Pixel 9 Pro Fold, Pixel 6, Pixel 7, Pixel Buds Pro (1+ 2), and a Nest Wifi Pro mesh network, alongside Workspace and YouTube Premium subscriptions. I'm deliberately not listing all the legacy devices I have...

I am more than willing to handle and pay for the logistics of shipping my device to an official Google repair center in Germany myself. I just need someone with actual authority to authorize a complimentary/non-chargeable RMA for a device that was bricked by Google's own software update.

Case ID: [2-7279000041331]

Any help or tag to a Google representative here would be highly appreciated.

anyone here running the beta? notifications

I'm running Android 17 Beta 4. There is a bug when using the inner screen where the notifications are not as wide as they should be. I circled in red the space not being used. This doesn't happen when using the outer screen.

Is anyone running the QPR1 beta? Does it still have this bug?

TM OR GOOGLE FI?

So I’m looking into getting the pixel 10 pro fold but I’m skeptical about who I should go through because of the whole device protection issue from post that I’ve seen. I currently have the pixel 9 pro on AT&T with my family but with the job I have service is garbage with them so I’ve decided to move my P9P to another service by itself but I definitely want to upgrade even it’s not needed seeing that all of our devices are paid. I’m going to buy the device right out so I don’t have to deal with the payment plan stuff. I understand that google fi piggybacks off T-Mobile but still should I go directly to the source or through T-Mobile? What is everyone else opinion on it?

Update on my fold focused launcher

Some of you may have seen my custom home launcher I've been working on. I have made some good progress on it in the last week and am ready to share some previews of more of the launcher settings. Every feature you see listed is fully functional.

I'm still looking for and open to feature suggestions/requests

Is it just me or does my Galaxy S21 5G take better photos than my Pixel 10 Pro Fold?

I recently switched from a Samsung Galaxy S21 5G to the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold and honestly I’m a bit surprised by the camera experience.

Don’t get me wrong, the Fold is amazing as a device overall, but sometimes my old S21 photos actually look better to me. The S21 shots seem:

* sharper

* more vibrant

* better with zoom

* more “social media ready”

Meanwhile the Pixel feels more natural, but sometimes softer or less detailed, especially indoors.

I always heard Pixels had the best cameras, so I expected a huge upgrade. Now I’m wondering if:

* foldables just have weaker camera hardware?

* Samsung processing is more appealing?

* or I just got used to the S21 look?

Anyone else moved from an S21/S21 Ultra to the Pixel 10 Pro Fold and felt the same way?

Pixel 10 Pro Fold - Yes or No

Hi all! I recently got into the folding market with my first phone being the Oppo Find N6. I truly love this phone, but I also wanted to try out the Samsung Galaxy tri-fold so I got that. I came to realize quickly that the tri-fold definitely was not for me as it was way too big so someone else will enjoy that one instead.

I recently noticed on the Oppo that I have a couple little scratches on the inside screen protector, the outside screen protector has a bunch of little scratches on it, stuff like that. Accessories are very hard to find, I can't replace the inside screen protector in the US, and I came to realize very recently, as I've never bought an international phone before, that I have literally no warranty on this. That gives me incredible anxiety. I have a Pixel Four watch and I have the Pixel Buds Pro 2, I love them both. My thought process has now kind of turned into, let's keep it all in the family.

What are your thoughts? How are the speakers, the battery life, the weight? Are accessories any good? Stick to first party ones? I much prefer a stock Android experience software wise as I wasn't a fan of Samsung's UI (I am coming from iOS). Color OS on the Oppo is really cool, but there are quirks that are driving me insane.

In any event, would you recommend the Pixel 10 Pro Fold? A huge draw for me is Pixel Care.

New it's the standard $1799 or what not. I saw a few Amazon deals for as low as $1050, eBay has some for like as low as $800, and Best buy open box excellent for like $1299. Just leery about getting a phone that isn't new.

Thanks!

P9Pro Fold Fingerprint Scanner Stopped Working

The fingerprint scanner on my Pixel 9 Pro Fold has slowly overtime become more and more unreliable. For the past 4 months my device would not even recognize there was fingerprint hardware. When I tried unlocking my phone I wouldn't even get haptic feedback that it didn't recognize my finger, it just did not work at all.

Recently, in the past 2 days, the scanner has ceased working almost entirely. When I would unlock my phone, I'd get the haptic "buzz" saying my finger wasn't recognized. It didn't matter what registered finger I used, it would fail to recognize it. Today I deleted all of my finger registrations and started from scratch. However, the setup process keeps failing. Every single time with each finger I try, the setup process fails saying "Can't complete fingerprint setup. Something went wrong. You can setup your fingerprint later."

I've tried being slow and deliberate as well as fast and sloppy. No luck.

I've tried restarting my phone in safe mode, no luck.

I've tried factory resetting, no luck.

Has anyone else experienced this? Did you have a fix?

Phone has never been dropped nor water damaged.

Where do I go from here with my pixel fold 10?

about a month ago I noticed that there was what like a small air bubble under the inner screen near the middle. I disregarded it as nothing serious because my phone worked fine. and then about 2 weeks later my inner screen went completely black. I contacted Google support and they told me to take it to a third party repair center that they are affiliated with. and so I did that. when I took it there the technician did a thorough inspection of my phone for any physical damage. the technician came to the conclusion that it was not a result from physical damage and that it was covered under Google manufacturer warranty since there was no evidence of physical damage. he gave me paperwork where he stated that there was no physical damage on the back or front of the phone and there was no cracks, so I have proof that when I took my phone it was in very good condition except for that air bubble and the inner screen not turning on. the technician approved of the repair and initiated the repair by ordering the part that was needed for my phone which was the inner screen. I waited about a week for the part to be delivered and within that one week this air bubble that was under my screen was getting bigger and bigger by the day to the point that it started to pop the inner screen off the edge. The screen popped off of the phone because of the air bubble, the screen being damaged was a result of the air bubble as I waited. when the time came for me to take my phone to the same location for the repair they said that they no longer can do the repair under Google's warranty because it has physical damage. but the physical damage happened because within that one week the air bubble that was approved for repairs got bigger by the day to the point that it was the reason why the screen popped off. and I explained to them several times that the screen popped off because of the air bubble. I showed them the document stating that it was approved for repairs on my phone And that the only defects my phone had was the air bubble and the inner screen not turning on. I explain to them that the screen peeling off was a result of me waiting for them to receive the part. I spoke to three different managers on three different occasions. they said that they cannot fix my phone under Google warranty because of the screen being popped off due to the air bubble. I took this matter up to Google and over the course of 2 weeks emailing them back and forth. they are now refusing to fix my phone even though I provided them with the proof that my phone was in good condition and that the damage happened not because of me mishandling my phone Because of the air bubble that was approved for repairs to begin with. they told me that I would have to take it up to the third party repair center and not Google. I explained to them so many times and I sent them the picture of where the technician inspected my phone and documented that there was no physical damage. it's gone to the point where Google customer support is now copying and pasting the same email over and over again when I keep explaining to them that it's not my fault that the screen popped off.

I don't have insurance or any kind of protection plan on my phone. I didn't think I actually needed it. I know it was pretty stupid and naive to think I didn't need it. My prior phone was a pixel 4 and not once did I ever have to make a repair on it. I always take good care of my phone's.

Google is refusing to reach out to the third party repair center and neither is the repair center willing to reach out to Google. And Google customer support is copying and pasting the same email after emailing them.

What would you guys do in this situation? I know it's definitely not the case but it almost seems like the repair center and Google are colluding in some kind of scam. Tho very unlikely

Torn Between Keeping the Pixel 10 PF or Trade it in for the Razr Fold

Motorola is giving out crazy deals for trade-in’s for the Razr Fold and I am struggling to decide whether to move on from my Pixel 10 Pro Fold as I see pro’s and con’s for both devices.  Motorola is giving $1,200 trade in value for the Pixel 10PF, so the incremental amount that I would have to pay is approximately $500.  The promo for the pre-order will also include the $99 stylus and one year of extended warranty, also $99.

Here are the pro’s and con’s:

Pros:

2026 model

Better CPU and GPU

Flagship Camera

7 years of software support

80W wired and 50W wireless charging speeds

6000 nits screens

Sylus support

Cons:

Improved but questionable Android software

No PixelSnap

Photo processing still not as good as Google

Does not support 2 active eSIM’s (one has to be physical SIM in order to use 2 SIM’s simultaneously)

I am so torn and keen to get other’s thoughts.

PF9 - hinge/screen detection becoming a bit iffy

So I'm finally starting to see issues with my PF9. Went through a phase this morning where I couldn't get the front screen to come on. It was clearly detecting when the device was open, but if I closed it the front screen wouldn't go active.

I have discovered that if I close it gently, it's largely fine - but if I do it quickly, that's when the issue happens. Is it worth pushing the button on a replacement? It is bearable, at the moment, but I suspect it will only get worse.

I'd want to do the advanced replacement as I wouldn't want to be without a phone, but I don't want to be lumbered with a bill if they declare there's nothing wrong with the phone, or it's had "damage" to it. How have people found the advanced replacement system with similar issues?

Pixel 9 Pro Fold for long-term use

Hi, I've recently been looking for a new phone and was considering the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, to satisfy my curiosity about the foldable design.

I'm not the type of person who changes phones often, so I'm aiming for something that will last a long time, even 5 years.

Do you think this phone can last that long, or does the foldable design make it more fragile and prone to usury?
