In-law gifts

What do you do when toxic in-laws never apologize for anything, and just send gifts that cost exorbitant amounts of money after they wrong you in some way?

My in-laws tend to either :

  1. Give insanely expensive gifts to guilt us into feeling like we owe them something. Aka they think it gives them the green light to push our boundaries any way they can.

  2. Gift things to smooth things over instead of apologizing or recognizing anything they did wrong. I say this because they never say anything about what any issue was during these gifts givings. But it's like clock work everytime they do something wrong, they shower us with gifts literally for no reason.

Even though I send LONG, detailed thank you cards and texts in a timely manner, I have been called "ungrateful" on occasion whenever I don't let them walk all over me.

Am I supposed to just start sending these gifts back?
