Inherited these pearls from my mother, curious if they’re real + sharing my najeonchilgi box
I received these pearls from my mother, and when she originally bought them she was told they were freshwater pearls. I’m not entirely sure if they’re real, but I love them either way. (Please ignore the Swarovski box, I just needed a flat surface to take the photo lol.) If anyone has any idea how to tell, I’d appreciate it!
I also wanted to share my najeonchilgi jewelry box. Najeonchilgi is a traditional Korean craft that combines najeon (mother-of-pearl inlay) and chilgi (lacquerware). The photos don’t really do it justice because of the lighting, but I really love traditional crafts, so I thought people here might appreciate it too.
I’m hoping to visit Korea someday and purchase a piece directly from well known master artisans, rather than mass produced brand pieces made by larger workshop teams. (This box is from February Mountain.) Unfortunately, it is a dying craft in South Korea, and I hope more artisans get global exposure and support so the next generation can continue the tradition!
