I’m hurting after my first 10k
I started running this year. I ran my first 5k on May 2nd with a chip time of 23:11 and pace of 7:28. I was pretty happy with my performance. I would’ve loved 22:30, but seeing I was 11th of 270 felt pretty good. Now, I scheduled a 10k just two weekends after. I know it’s a big jump, but my brother was doing it and I wanted to join him. Following my 5k, he’s what I ran :
May 3rd : 2.77miles at 8:05 pace
May 5th : 3.01miles at 8:01 pace
Took a trip to Colorado, didn’t run there at all because…well…it’s a vacation! The huge altitude difference also.
9 days after my last run, I got back home and ran 5.5 miles at a 7:48 pace. It felt great actually. I ran this distance because I knew my 10k was in just two days and I was worried I wouldn’t be able to do it, especially after a 9-day break.
Two days later, ran the 10k on May 16th in 51:56 at a 8:10 pace.
Now I want to train for a marathon using Runna. It’s at the end of September. Today, May 18th, I just got finished with a 3.5 mile run. It was rough. Worst run I’ve had in a long time. My legs are stiff, my back hurts, my sides hurt, my arms up around my shoulders hurt.
Now I will say, the last about 50-100yards of the 10k I gave it my all. Sprinted. I’ve never done this before while running.
Is this what did it? Should I take a break? A week? Two weeks? A couple days? Am I not eating right to recovery?
I’ve never been injured like this from running
