So, I am a Malaysian 5SOS fan, and I was too late for the artist presale, so I went on twitter for resellers. I come across this account and I was in such a rush to get the tickets I basically, like an idiot, forgot to do a background check on this person.

These types of scams, the person may provide proof that looks real, but NEVER trust accounts where a person is selling items for a different currency than their country of origin.

Just changed their @ to @/mikoTicketplt

In my case, I thought this person was Malaysian based on their name and method of payment (QR , GX BANK FROM GRAB - Malaysia’s version of Uber) under the name “Alifah Binti Sawan”

Anyways, I lost a total of RM1500 (almost 400 USD).

Also, they are following A LOT of ticket resellers, and government affiliated accounts from Kenya and Africa. Of course, I asked if they were from Kenya and they blocked me. This makes me believe the scamming operation to be based in Nairobi, Kenya, but that is just an educated guess on my end.

It’s not just Malaysians that are affected, but it seems to be Thailand, Singapore, Japan and Korea.

Account from Kenya

Always check where the account originated from

So, my advice to you guys is to you guys:

  1. Check their country of origin, not the location they put on their account, but where they actually signed up from.

  2. See if they are involved in any scammer list. Sometimes the community would put these scammers in a list, DONT SKIP THIS PART, this couldve saved my life.

Account is also based in Africa

  1. ALWAYS ask for proof of purchase, receipts, previous customer’s reviews. I did, but I should have investigated further instead of what I did.

But if you have been scammed, always contact your bank, and file a police report. Let my mistakes educate you guys, have a great day you guys!
