One Egyptian Arabic phrase you probably won’t find in a textbook 🇪🇬

If you’re learning Egyptian Arabic, here’s a phrase you’ll hear all the time:

مشي حالك

Mashii ḥālak

It literally means “make it work,” but depending on the situation, it can mean:

  • “Just manage.”
  • “Do your best with what you have.”
  • “It’ll do.”
  • “Get by.”

Examples:

👤 A: I don’t have enough time to cook.

👤 B: مشي حالك بأي حاجة.

“Just make do with whatever you have.”

It’s one of those expressions that sounds very Egyptian and comes up in everyday conversations.

What’s your favorite Egyptian Arabic word or phrase you’ve learned so far? Or if you’re a beginner, what’s one expression you’d like me to explain next?
