I have been tasked with creating the brand guide for a company, and to start they need an icon, or logo, other than their standard wordmark. their company name has two words starting with "v" and "c". the only direction I have been given is to make something that tells the story of the brand and is able to be used in diverse applications and at small scales. The hand holding the torch is the idea I have came up with to tell their story, and the VC included in the design calls back to their company name. (I am slightly worried that the v c hidden within the design is not obvious enough, But I dont want to trade off the legibility of the v and c for the legibility of the design as a whole)

what I am looking for in terms of feedback is really just, does this design look amateurish, does it follow basic design principles, and how might I change it to be more specific/recognizable especially at small scales.

I am a fine artist by trade and have limited experience in logo design. Any feedback is appreciated.
