Do I need this power commander module or can I remove it?

Recently picked up this hornet with a power commander module and I'm wondering if I can just remove this thing from the handle bar. It's hooked up to the actual PC module under the seat, I don't have any experience with these so I'm just wondering if removing this little module will affect anything?
