Hi everyone, I need some advice regarding a phone theft case and dealing with the police.

My phone got stolen at Botanical Garden Metro on 1st April. At that time, I got an LAR (Lost Article Report) registered because I didn’t know that LAR and FIR are different.

Later, when I found out the difference, I tried filing an e-FIR through UP Cop, but it got rejected twice. So I decided to go for a physical FIR.

I went to the police chowki under Botanical station. The Sub-Inspector there kept pushing me to go for LAR again. I didn’t tell him that I had already filed an LAR earlier because I was afraid he might refuse to file an FIR.

When I insisted, I mentioned that my uncle is a lawyer. After that, his tone changed slightly and he started suggesting I should just file an e-FIR instead. When I still insisted on a physical FIR, he told me to go to the main police station (thana) and meet the SHO.

At the police station, I couldn’t meet the SHO, but the officer at the front desk called the chowki SI. After that, they asked me to write my statement on paper, which I did. Then they told me that the FIR would be registered by the same SI at the chowki.

While leaving, the front desk officer asked what my uncle does — that’s when I realized the SI had already informed them about my “lawyer uncle.”

Next day, I called the SI (as advised by the police station). He again asked me to come to the chowki. When I went, he again pushed for e-FIR. After some convincing, he took my Aadhaar and phone invoice and said he would speak to the SHO in the evening and proceed if SHO approves.

After 2–3 days, I followed up again. He said the SHO is telling to file an e-FIR.

Frustrated, I got the SHO’s number online and called him, explaining everything. After about 5 minutes, the SI called me angrily asking where I got the SHO’s number from. I told him it’s publicly available online and I couldn’t meet him earlier.

He then told me to come to the chowki again to “talk.”

Now I’m honestly a bit scared to go alone.

My questions:

1. Why are they avoiding registering a physical FIR and insisting on e-FIR

2. Is it safe to go alone, or should I take someone with me?

3. What’s the best way to handle this situation now?

Baad me jab pata chala ki FIR alag hoti hai, toh maine UP Cop app se e-FIR try ki, lekin 2 baar reject ho gayi. Fir maine decide kiya ki physical FIR karwata hu.

Main Botanical ke niche wali police chowki gaya. Waha ke Sub-Inspector baar-baar LAR ke liye push kar rahe the. Maine unhe nahi bataya ki pehle se LAR kar rakhi hai, warna shayad wo FIR hi mana kar dete.

Jab maine insist kiya and maine mention kiya ki mere chacha advocate hain. Uske baad unka tone thoda change hua, lekin fir bhi wo e-FIR karne ko bolne lage. Jab maine bola ki mujhe physical FIR hi karwani hai, toh unhone bola ki thane jao aur SHO se mil lo.

Main thane gaya, lekin SHO se mil nahi paya. Front desk wale ne chowki ke SI ko call kiya. Fir mujhe bola gaya ki paper pe statement likh do, maine likh di. Uske baad bola gaya ki FIR wahi chowki wala SI karega.

Jate time front desk wale ne mujhse poocha ki chacha kya karte hain — tab samajh aaya ki SI ne unhe pehle hi bata diya tha.

Next day maine SI ko call kiya (thane wale ne hi bola tha call karne ko). SI ne bola chowki aa jao. Main gaya toh fir se e-FIR ke liye push karne laga. Thoda convince karne ke baad usne mera Aadhaar aur phone ka invoice liya aur bola ki shaam me SHO se baat karega.

2-3 din baad maine follow-up kiya, toh bola SHO keh rahe hain e-FIR karo.

Frustrated hokar maine SHO ka number online dhundh ke unhe call kar diya aur pura matter explain kiya. 5 minute baad SI ka call aaya, thoda gusse me poochne laga ki SHO ka number kaha se mila. Maine bola online available hota hai.

Usne fir bola chowki aa jao baat karte hain.

Ab honestly mujhe thoda darr lag raha hai akela jaane me.
