UGC mentor’s response completely turned me off — am I overreacting?
I’m evaluating a few UGC mentorship/coaching programs right now ranging from $3K–$7K, and I wanted to get some outside perspective on an interaction that completely turned me off.
I asked one program if they offered any kind of trial access, deeper consult, or way to evaluate the program before investing because another mentor I’m considering gave me a complimentary 1:1 consult and 24-hour access to view the platform live. I told them that level of transparency made me lean more toward that program.
This was their response word-for-word:
“I’ll be real - asking for businesses to bend at the knee is kind of hilarious (not condescending, I’m genuinely intrigued 😂). To us, negotiations are for brand deals, not serious business mentors.
Frankly the value to investment ratio of what we offer is unheard of in the UGC space.
In the end, we know our value - and no stranger on the internet can make you feel confident in your decision. My mentor helped me learn that confidence truly comes after the action, never before. It’s up to you to commit to a path to really elevate your approach.”
For context, this program also markets heavily around creators only needing to work ~15 hours/week and relying mostly on referrals instead of excessive pitching.
Am I overreacting for being completely turned off by this response? I understand businesses can say no to requests, but the tone felt surprisingly dismissive considering this is still a $3K investment. Would this interaction make you reconsider too?
