Hello,

I'm planning to move apartments soon and found a perfect one. My only hold out for it is carpeted floors and the previous tenant had a dog.

I'm not heavily allergic to dogs but after an hour or two in a house with a dog I start getting a runny and stuffy nose. If the dog is actively jumping on me like my friend's dog does, then I end up with a scratchy throat and my eyes swell and itch after maybe 3 hours or so.

What are steps I can take to ensure allergens are as reduced as possible?

Is it a silly concern or will steam cleaning the carpets, painting the walls, and replacing the filters resolve this as a problem?

I'm looking for a new apartment and found one that's perfect - location is ideal while meeting all my requirements and still being 200$/mo under my budget.

I also plan to get a cat so it's pet friendly. However, someone mentioned to me that getting a pet friendly apartment may be problematic due to my allergies to dogs.

It seems unavoidable considering I'd like a cat and I have never seen cat only apartments.

Is this an actual concern to have? Should I instead look for pet free locations?
