What are the worst months for your allergies?
I never keep track which months make me get a runny nose and itchy eyes but I really should start. Does any one have specific months, or times of year thats the worst for you?

I have been struggling with the following symptoms for about 4 years now (atleast when I became aware that I was since I thought it was “normal”): Dry mouth (at its worst when I wake up), Constant post nasal drip at the top of the back of the roof of my mouth), bad smell in my nose if I don’t completely clear it out (usually in the morning), bad breath 30 minutes after brushing which I think is being caused by the dry mouth, thick saliva/mucus in the back of my throat/mouth.
I went to the doctor which said it might be allergies and was later tested. The test came back positive and I was prescribed antihistamines which didn’t help at all. I got prescribed stronger ones which still didn’t work. I have been inside mostly for about two weeks to try and solve this issue and I still have the same results despite how close I am to stuff that should be triggering my allergies.
I have tried mouth tape, xylitol (only works temporarily), chewing gum, nasal sprays, sinus rinses, tonsil stone clearing (no tonsil stones found), salt water gargles and more. Nothing has helped and i’m thinking it might be some form of chronic sinusitis even though my doctor didn’t find anything serious in my nose.
If you have any advice or know what I may be struggling with I would really appreciate it.
Has anyone had a dust mite allergy while trying to treat an internal hemorrhoids? I’ve been trying for a year and a half and I am still suffering. I haven’t eaten out since the end of April. I’ve being taking nasal spray but my hemorrhoids keeps bleeding and it is impossible to clean properly. I have a class v dust mite allergy. If anyone has dealt with this please say something. I’ve cut of dairy, wheat, sugar and been on a low histamine diet for 2 months. I wash my clothes everyone week and yet I can’t find peace. I am leaking mucus that smells bad and it’s embarrassing. The doc said just increase the fiber but that hasn’t helped.
Hello guys, I need some possible relief options for this situation
For context, I have always had pretty severe dog allergies. Nothing life threatening, but bad rhinitis and if I was exposed too much, chest wheeziness/tightness overnight. Unfortunately my mother decided to get a dog (a toy poodle at least) for my sister and our whole family when I was 8 (a baffling decision also considering my dad has even more severe animal allergies than me). She claims she didn’t know I had animal allergies, but oh well.
In any case, I’m now in between semesters of college (due to it being summer) and because I work in my hometown over the summer that means having to stay at my mom’s place. Moving out is not an option since my dad is living with his girlfriend and she doesn’t like me, so the only thing I can do is ride it out until the new semester starts in September and I start my lease for my apartment next year.
With all of that in mind, this is the current situation:
-I am sleeping on a couch in the living room of an apartment (we are not very rich).
-Allergies to the dog fluctuate but can get pretty bad when he’s consistently downstairs and in the vicinity. I use many tissues for my stuffy and runny noses, the worst symptoms by far.
-My mom mostly refuses to use air conditioning because of the cost, which would help somewhat as it fluctuates the air so the dander doesn’t settle. After pleading with her due to the severity of my allergies she has allowed me to use it sparingly at night to help with my breathing.
-My mom keeps it at 79 degrees which I find unfathomable, this makes the air even stuffier and harder to rest in.
-Nights are the worst, and if I don’t take zyrtec that day I’ll find myself tight chested at night and struggling to sleep on the couch.
-I try to take two zyrtecs a day to mitigate allergy symptoms. If I manage to take them, they offset the worst of the symptoms and depending on the circumstances have rarely eliminated them for the day entirely (usually when the dog is out of the house and I wipe surfaces, then using AC for half an hour to filter particles). Despite that, they are not 100% effective.
-I try and clean regularly, and the first day after cleaning is typically relatively allergy free, but every day after that gets progressively worse.
Are there any additional solutions anyone can think of for solving this or mitigating symptoms? And if there is anything you think would be effective despite the cost, such as using AC more, then let me know.
Wild shot in the dark here hoping someone has experienced something similar - My wife is smelling something in our kitchen that is making her feel nauseous and have a burning sensation in her throat that I cannot smell. I've cleaned the floors, counters, ovens, drains etc. and nothing has helped. She's done some Googling and wondered aloud if we have a refrigerant leak from our HVAC system. Our house is all electric, so there is no possibility of a gas leak. I'm doing my best to help with the issue, but because I'm not perceiving the same things she is, I don't know how to troubleshoot.
And whether it's a contact allergy vs medication allergy vs some kind of condition. I'm sure it would be beneficial, but my copay is 150, so I don't want to go unless it's likely to add info. I already have steroid cream and whatnot. Thanks!!!
I was out for lunch today with my family and I tried a sip of my sisters drink, after which I immediately started getting pain in my neck and struggled to breathe for a little bit. I struggled to eat my food as my throat felt so tight and it hurt to swallow. I also couldn’t lift up my head as it hurt. it only started to feel like that after I had some of the drink. I’m not sure if it was a reactio, as i am not allergic to anything of my knowledge- never been tested - so I have never had a reaction but my friend who is a nurse said that’s what it sounds like. I’m planning on making a visit to my GP but I’m wondering if that’s what it was??
Hi everyone! I’m looking for some advice and experiences, hoping someone here has been in a similar shoes. 🐾
We brought home our little Maltipoo boy, Fahéj (Cinnamon), a little over a week ago. I’ve always imagined my life with a dog, and I felt like now was the right time. Back in January, I visited an allergist who confirmed through testing that I am highly allergic to dogs. After doing a lot of research, I came across the Maltipoo breed, which sounded very promising. My husband and I even visited a breeder, where I spent over an hour with two adult Maltipoos and had absolutely no allergic reaction – this is what gave us the courage to go for it.
During the first week at home, I didn’t have any symptoms either. Since his vaccination schedule isn't complete yet, we’ve carried him around in our arms a few times. After about 20–30 minutes of direct skin contact, I got a mild local skin reaction that cleared up within an hour. However, two days ago, my allergy really flared up: I'm struggling with a stuffy nose and a slightly scratchy throat. 😢
What we’ve been doing from the very beginning:
The bedroom is a completely dog-free zone, and he is not allowed on the couch either.
I mop every two days, and we clean constantly and very thoroughly.
We wash his things regularly, and I wash my hands immediately after every interaction.
I’ve wiped him down three times with water mixed with a bit of mild dog shampoo (he hasn't had a full bath yet).
A Philips PureProtect Quiet 2200 Series smart air purifier is already on its way for the living room, where he spends most of his time.
Long-term allergy medication and immunotherapy are not options in my current situation.
I am really heartbroken because we absolutely adore this puppy, and I don’t want to give up. Have any of you been through this? Is there any hope that my body will get used to him, or that it will ease up once he gets out of the puppy stage? I would be incredibly grateful for any tips, proven tricks, or specific products (shampoos, sprays, etc.)! 🙏
I'm live in Hungary, side information.
UPDATE: At the dog's first vet check-up, they found out that he has giardia. Actually, ever since he's been with us, he has been undergoing deworming treatment and can only do his business inside the apartment on a puppy pad. We cannot take him out on the street because he hasn't finished his vaccination series yet, and also to prevent him from getting reinfected due to the giardia.
Five years ago, I was still able to live full-time with a golden retriever together with my family. It was a detached house where I lived on the upper floor, and the dog was on the ground floor. I don't remember having any allergy symptoms.
Reddit allergy folk: How are you dealing with allergies and sinus pressure and pain? I have had horrible sinus pressure since Friday, and nothing seems to touch it. Was given a sinus infection prescription but that doesn’t feel like it’s touching it either.
Has anyone else had issues with blood pressure. I’ve always gone into anaphylaxis with a few blood pressure drops to 72 and 60 but always had the vomitting, flushing and other symptoms first. The other day I woke up, stood up and was super dizzy that last ages. Felt tiny bit nauseous but was t sure if I was having a reaction. BP dropped to 96/60 took my epi as per my plan. Lucky I did as an hour later feet and hands went cold and yellow, throat pressure, nausea again and more adrenaline edit Bp trended down to 89 was unstable and spent the night in ICU. Hospital said was anaphylactoid as no trigger, just woke up. Now I get scared if I get dizzy which now I ALOT and no idea what my body has decided to do.
I know he can't help it, but I have a houseguest who is driving me insane with snorting, sneezing, sniffing, all day long. Bad allergies. He's taken an OTC antihistamine and used a Neti pot. What the hell else can I offer him so I don't lose my mind?
Curious how worried I need to be at this point. I went into shock as a child from a fish stick, but now 35 and thought i avoided fish my whole life.
Never had a epi pen, but ate at plenty of restaurants and even when at school where I doubt they traded out grease for frying. Been more conscious of it now and ask and avoid but the fact ive eaten at said restaurants has me wondering if I should be as afraid as I am.
Beyond stomach issues at places like pop eyes, never been to the hospital since.
What's the chances I have my allergy overblown in my head and calm back down again?
I can go a day or two with Loradadine, but I go insane if I miss Pataday eyedrops. Today I misplaced it, and I basically tore apart my room trying to find it. Thankfully I did.
When I’m at work my chest gets red and all the skin that comes in contact with the seafood is extremely itchy and I’m starting to get red spots. The rest of my body feels sore, my eyes feel itchy, and I am just in general itchy all over. I don’t want to have to quit and if I eat stuff that had close contact with seafood I’m ok but I don’t want to risk eating it straight up because I don’t have a lot of money to go to the hospital. I am going to make a diy allergy test my boiling so seafood at a low temp and concentrating the broth. Then soaking a piece of gauze and taping that to my skin and my boyfriend’s skin (as a control since he is not allergic). If it’s possible is there a way to keep my job and treat this so it doesn’t get worse? I have allergy medicine I can take but I don’t know if I can afford taking it every time I’m at work. What should I do?
Hello!
I have had severe seasonal allergies as long as I can remember. I’ve been on different daily allergy meds as long as I can remember. As of recently, 2 different allergists as well as my primary care doctor have recently told me that I’ve tried every class of medicine they can offer me as far as medications. So for now I am on xyzal, Flonase, and singulair. I’ve been referred for allergy shots but simply have no way to afford them, and they are sympathetic but basically I’m SOL until I can find a way to afford them.
Most of the time I can manage it. I do neti rinses constantly, warm compresses, daily honey, additional medicine as needed, massaging my sinuses. My daily symptoms when I’m okay are mild sniffling, some skin itchiness, low grade headaches, dry eyes, nasal congestion. It sucks but I’m used to it I guess.
But I’ve started noticing a pattern and honestly I’m a little embarrassed to realize how long it’s been happening and me not realizing the timing. I have always felt like I usually got sick around my period, like the week before or right before. It always feels like a sinus infection or just severe allergies. And I’m realizing that almost every single month right before my period my allergies get out of control.
The past few days I’ve been in so much pain. It’s like all my normal allergy symptoms but amplified to where it is hard to do anything. My head hurting is the main contributor; my entire head feels so tender and it’s hard to be upright sometimes.
Does anyone else experience this or am I reading too much into this timing? If anyone does experience this, do you have any advice?
My gf is getting an allergy test done soon, and has to stop taking Zyrtec in preparation. She's been taking it for years, so the itches are driving her crazy! Does anyone have any tips on how to make things easier during this time? Thanks!!
Management brought in a dirty washer/dryer that smelled strongly of scented product and I’m allergic to my entire apartment now. I spent the better part of the day scrubbing it with a scrub daddy plastic sponge, dish soap, baking soda, and then bleach with a rag for sanitation because it was filthy and there was mold in the soap compartment. I took that compartment out and soaked it, scrubbed it. Scrubbed inside its housing until all traces of mold were gone. I ran it with baking soda and bleach, and it’s still smelling up my whole apartment. I’m sleeping on the couch, but my allergies are still bad out here. I really need a quick fix because I have a ton of laundry to do urgently.
Edit to add: and this is days after I ran a load with vinegar and then a load with baking soda already.
Bud, Miller, Coors, Amstel Ultra, basically all the big lager brands in the U.S. give me symptoms like my pollen/particulate allergies. Heavier beers, like stouts, don't. Is there an ingredient or additive or process that can explain this? Hard alcohols like tequila or bourbon don't cause it either. Any ideas?
I just wanted to make this post to help anyone who might be dealing with the same symptoms i was.
First, some background. For 5 years I had chronic fatigue, pain behind my eyes, thick mucus that would only come down the back of my throat, and a general “off” feeling all of the time. I could sleep 12 hours and wake up not rested. I couldn’t run, or else I would choke on the thick mucus coming down my throat. Doctors dismissed me for years, saying my sinus CT was totally clear, even when I objectively had blood and thick crap coming out of my head.
I got an allergy panel done, and, of course, I was severely allergic to nearly everything they tested for. My allergies present in a weird way though. No mucus in the front of my nose, no itchy eyes, no tickly throat. Just thick, stubborn mucus deep in my head/ back of my throat and so much inflammation I could barely make it through the day.
Now for what helped me. Because of the area my mucus is stuck in, I found the only way to get anything to reach it was using the mygind position. This is basically laying down on a bed/couch so that the top of your head is facing the floor, then doing your rinse in that position. You kinda let the rinse pool deep in your head, then come back up after about 30 seconds of it sitting there. Repeat until done with the bottle (you can take the straw out of your rinse bottle to allow the liquid to flow while upside down). I was amazed at the amount of stuff that came out. While this helps, it’s not directly targeting the inflammation. For that, the best thing for me was to get a budenoside (steroid) prescription that I dissolve into the rinse. Typical sprays simply can’t reach the problem area, so they don’t really help.
I really hope this helps someone. These were the hardest 5 years of my life, and I just want to share this in case it helps even one person.
I haven’t had Allergies this bad ever in my life. Occasionally I would have seasonal allergies but they were easily taken care of with a Claritin or whatever. I’m not sure what is the cause for it but these last 6 months I been battling with serve chronic allergies that came seemingly out of nowhere. I carry a hankie with me everyday for my severe congestion just to blow my nose and get some relief. I’ve tried several combinations but nothing seems to help and at best gets me like 2 hours of partial relief. I went to a doctor about 2 months ago and he prescribed me Oxymetazoline Nasal Spray which I’ve been taking with Zyrtec. Doesn’t help much but I figured I’d wait a few weeks for the meds to work. I’m at the point now where I’m about to go back for a follow up next month but I was hoping you guys would have some advice for me in the mean time. I’m tired of walking around with my mouth hanging open like P. Diddy lol.
Any advice is appreciated. 🙏
