Medicine

hey guys so I took mucinex rapid clear around 10 o’clock last night before I went to bed and this morning I decided to take mucinex cold and flu because it better fit my symptoms and now I’m getting anxious and scared that I might have done an overdose. (I have bad health anxiety)

Can you develop allergy to jeweller (gold earring) overnight?

My ear lobs are swollen red, and doc said it is a allergic reaction, but idk to what. Earlier this week, at 2am iching suddenly started on my ear lobs after removing my earrings I checked and I was bleeding a bit (from both my piercings). I washed it water and handsoap, then applied antiseptic for cuts and stuff and slept, next morning it became worst so i visited doc, they provide pills and prescribed a cream to apply.

Now I have long nails so it can be that after itching it got infected...? Or my headphones or as I said maybe I suddenly developed an overnight (literally) allergy to gold or metal...?

Edit: forgot to mention, I had been wearing for 1+ year continuously until recently, like a month or two ago I removed them for a while.

I tried solving the “cleaning makes me sneeze harder” feeling

The dumbest part of having allergies is that cleaning can feel like launching the allergens into the air on purpose.

I vacuum, I feel productive, then 20 minutes later my nose acts like I personally offended it. Add pets and it gets worse because the floor is basically a shared storage layer for dander, pollen from paws, litter dust, carpet dust, and whatever the dog rolled in because joy is illegal. So now when people ask about the HEPA side of robot vacuums, I get why they sound intense. It is not about being fancy. It is about not turning the robot into a tiny dust cannon. I have been looking at the S2 because the filtration and sealed dust path seem like they are actually part of the design instead of a checkbox. Pair that with deeper carpet suction and the self-cleaning mop, and the “health” pitch makes more sense to me than the usual smart-home pitch. I don’t need my vacuum to be my friend. I need it to remove pet dander, keep fine particles contained, and not make the room feel worse while it is “cleaning.”

Allergy people here, what matters more in real life: filter rating, sealed system, carpet suction, or how often the dock empties without blasting dust at your face?

Post-Allergy Shot Hive

Hi, all-

I’m on week 4 of allergy shots. The first two weeks I had some pretty strong systemic responses, which tracks given recent allergy tests (allergist’s scoring only goes up to 4, he had to, and I quote, create a whole new score just for me lol). The past two shots have been much better, since I finally figured out the right dose of meds to keep everything uncomfortable but not concerning.

One thing I’m curious about (not worried, thankfully as my doctor is only open Mondays and Fridays) is that for both the shots and the testing I had hives that weren’t big- about the size of a dime, maybe- but they last for a DOG’S AGE. I’m talking, four weeks in, and I carry three hives all exactly where the shot was placed In the three different locations. No other hives, no changing shape. They just….hang out and sometimes get itchy. Same thing happened with the allergy tests. It took over a month for them to go away. They never spread, they never grew. Just tagged along for the ride.

Is this normal? Do others experience it? I couldn’t find anything on Google and I’m not sure if it’s not normal or if my research skills aren’t up to par. Should I mention it when I get my next shot?

Allergic to homes/apartments

I've had issues being allergic to my last apartment and now my current apartment. I was also allergic to another prior apartment that I had to move out of because my symptoms were so severe.

My last apartment was a 1 bedroom and I lived alone. However it was kinda like one big circle so it was pretty small. I was allergic ever since I moved into it and lived there for 3 years. My doctor put me on a histamine blocker to help mitigate my symptoms and it helped significantly.

I've since moved in with roommates. Ever since we moved in, I've been allergic to the living room. I'm also allergic to one of my roommates rooms that I would like to hang out in. Said roommate bought a HEPA purifier for their room and doesn't have any fragrances or anything I'm obviously allergic to.

As for the living room, I have no idea what I'm allergic to in it as there isn't much in the room. I'm not allergic to the kitchen or the laundry room, which are both downstairs. The living room and kitchen lead into each other so it's strange I'm not allergic to the kitchen. I'm also not allergic to my room. We do have a HEPA purifier in the living room and I have one in my room as well.

I'm allergic to pine, cedar, latex, rose, adhesives, and dust/mites. The entire home has carpet except for the kitchen. There is no central air but there is a wall ac/heat unit in the living room.

At the new place, they had put down new carpet and carpet padding prior to us moving in and painted the walls. It's my understanding latex paint doesn't use actual rubber latex so I shouldn't be having a reaction to that. My room is also painted with the same paint and I'm not allergic to it.

It's incredibly frustrating to be stuck in a home when I'm allergic to it. And I generally don't know until I spend a sufficient amount of time in the home so it's a gamble whenever I move. I have lived in 3 other homes where I didn't have allergic reactions.

My most prominent and debilitating symptoms are fatigue, severe brain fog, and swelling.

Is there any actual natural "cures" for dust mite allergies?

I don't want to keep taking antihistamine medication.

I also dont want to do immunotherapy for 2+ years getting injections.

Yes, I know I can allergen-proof my room with de-humidifiers, anti-allergen sheets etc. But this doesn't help when traveling or going out.

Is there any natural remedies that helped you body adapt to not having a dust mite allergy or at least not a strong histamine response?

Thanks!

Where to get a Saline Nebulizer for a dry cough?

I’ve tried everything for this dry hacking cough I’ve got from allergies and one of the only things I haven’t tried is the saline nebulizer I’ve heard about. Although everywhere I look there are only saline misters of sorts that are for nasal congestion, not cough. The ones I do see on Amazon for cough are usually very poorly rated. If you have one, where did you get it?

Just callee 911 panicked

I was in punta cana yesterday and was stung on the foot. Apparently this causes hive like dots all over the body it did too my arms and torso. I only realized after talking with the medical team in ambulance because the ENT said this happened to him. He said it's probably just panic attack since anaphylaxis is instant.

I'll note I have eoe which causes me to have throat pains and saliva getting stuck in the esophagus which also panics me. I'm sitting in the er lot right now feeling low on breathing. But idk how to feel. My lips aren't swollen and I can swallow but I'm having mouth pains and saliva feels stuck. No hives just those hive like dots from what I got stung by. I think my esophagus condition paired with my allergies and these weird bumps are only just fueling my anxiety. I ate nothing only drank ice tea that I have always drank.

I feel like I almost died

I am apparently allergic to pollen. Why, when I don't take my Allegra, do I feel like I have almost died? It just feels like a slog just going through it. I'm at the point where I am asking for the allergy shots. I'm in the northeast. Everything is in bloom. And I feel like I am dying without my Allegra. Like holy crap, I am dripping from my nose and my eyes. Is it time for me to get the shots?

Singulair side effects

Holy hell. It’s the first day of trying it out and I was so damn hopeful. Took it at around 6pm, Zyrtec, nasal wash, then felt excited about maybe enjoying summer!

Finally started to be able to sleep at 3am, and then the sleep paralysis, night terrors, sound hallucinations, false awakenings felt like hell. Turned over finally excited to be awake and it has only been 37 minutes.

I saw other people had similar effects, although mine weren’t as severe as the other experiences some others posted about this medication. Did anyone have similar feelings and had it go away shortly thereafter? I have a feeling if it stays like this for more than a few days I might just need to give up on this drug…

Anyone else been congested for like 2 months?

Been like every day bro. I wake up and have intense sinus pressure feeling that radiates to my ears, head/temples, cheeks/jaw, then throat hurts due to post nasal drip maybe. It feels like I have a balloon in my face.

Sudafed helps but not always fully, and I don’t want to take it too often to avoid rebound congestion. I do nasal rinses and Flonase 2x night and morning. I take a daily allergy pill. I’ve even started sleeping elevated despite the neck soreness this causes sometimes.

Is it the weather? Barometric pressure changes? Allergies? Idk. But please, if you experience this & have any tips for getting some relief, please, please let me know 🙏

Long-Term Effects of Claritin or Other Antihistamines Since Childhood?

My son’s sleep and behavior has improved with Claritin. He is 4. My question is if anyone has ever taking a daily histamine every day since childhood, and if this has in their mind produced any negatives or positives since adulthood? Thank you!

Whats the minimum time frame after eating Nutella can I kiss my partner?

Hi all! The title sums up my question exactly.

But for further context, my husband has a nut allergy, peanuts and tree nuts. He carries an EpiPen.

Thankfully I’m not the greatest nut fan in the world but I do have a sweet tooth for Nutella and definitely kinder buenos. Which (obviously) contains hazelnuts. I’ve stopped buying anything Nutella/nut based for the house. On occasion when he’s at work or I’m over at my friends house and I know we won’t be able to kiss for 7ish hrs or more I’ll treat myself, and drop him a quick text to let him know. This works for us and is something we’re both happy with no incidents to date.

but it has left me curious on what the minimum time frame is/could be. I suppose it would depend on the amount of nuts in a product and the severity of the allergy itself :)

Chronic rhinitis struggle

I think as young as 10 years old I was already struggling with this condition almost everyday. I did some allergy tests and found I was allergic to pet dander, cockroach, dust, grass, and pollens. There were times my allergies were very serious that I'd end up having difficulty breathing, migraines, ear pain, and skin itchiness.

I've been prescribed Mometasone spray, saline solution nasal spray, as well as antihistamines. The problem with sprays is it sometimes hurt my nose and was a bit uncomfortable. It also felt like it didn't work for me, so for the most part, I heavily relied on antihistamines such as Montelukast and Cetirizine.

However, my allergies really have been getting worse now that I'm older. The symptoms showing were more frequent. I've been frustrated for about 2 weeks because I haven't been getting the rest and sleep I needed, especially with exams coming up. It has been the main cause of my anxiety lately.

I switched to Benadryl, and have been taking it for about a week now. It would give me immediate relief but I'd end up sleeping for most of the following day, which would have been time for studying.

My mother and I have yet to visit the doctor for an appointment, but I'd just like to ask if any of you here have experienced Cetirizine not working anymore, rhinitis getting worse, sleep apnea problems and what you've done or procedures that have been followed through to overcome them.

I think I'm getting badly depressed because of this.

Flonase causing tight throat and chest?

So I've been taking Flonase for 6 days and I've noticed that I'm having heart palpitations/anxiety and my chest and throat feel tight and sometimes when I laugh I get these coughing fits and I can't breathe well. I'm definitely stopping it immediately. But has anyone else experienced this while taking Flonase? And how long before the side effects went away after you stopped?

Got a rash from new furniture. What should I do, and what might I be reacting to?

I keep getting a rash from my balcony chairs--significant hives that start immediately and last over a week. I thought it had to be something else, but it's pretty obviously starting when I sit on these.

Any thoughts on what I'm reacting to? Should I just scrap the cushions or the entire set? Is it the cushions or rope material (see pic)? I hate to ever waste money, but the seller won't confirm the materials, and I've been miserable, lol. And I don't know if it's worth "testing" again to see if I have a reaction to the base, etc. I was thinking it had to be the cushions, but it's such a severe reaction; I've never had something like this happen from furniture. Thank you!
