9+ years of allergy shots and still allergic -- am I supposed to get them forever?
38F and have been getting allergy shots for the past 9+ years. I have had to switch doctors a couple of times because I moved, but for the last 7 years they've been consistent with my current doctor.
When I first started getting allergy shots, my allergist at the time told me it could take between 3-5 years before we'd be done. My current allergist/ENT says I would just get the shots indefinitely.
I recently went to see a different allergist and they requested I get my blood tested to see where I was at with my allergies (my current doctor has never suggested I retest). My test results show that I'm no longer allergic to the various trees and pollen like I used to be, but I am still allergic to cat dander (0.47), dog dander (3.37), and both varieties of dust mites (0.91 and 0.66).
My question is after so many years of getting allergy shots, should I bother to continue? Do I really just have to keep going forever? It seems different doctors have different opinions on this and I'm curious what others' experiences have been.
TIA!
