Partner with chronic illnesses struggling to find their will in life and to get better
It's been incredibly difficult for my partner to have a chance at life, they're always living in survival mode and never had too much luck in life to begin with. But I am always supporting them and care the best I can, from the other side of the world.
They are in their 30's and cannot really function in society, experienced a lot of traumatic events and life changing things since a child. I would never wish on anyone what they have gone through ever and I admire their resilience very much. Self sabotage is a daily combat, their mind isn't a very kind place and we've been trying together to soothe that. But I am only a partner, can only do much.
The difficult parts are mostly their lack of support system, like at all. Chronic pain daily, sickness daily, inability to perform a regular life ( whatever that means ) or hold a job over a few months, very low self esteem worth as well as a plethora of mental health issues which are being treated with medications who from their words, doesn't do anything at all. Having a lack of power in their own life, feeling of hopelessness, even contacting local support lead to nowhere, 211 was a disaster, the hospital was dismissive of them many times. Unable to seek proper health care due to being poor, which is the vicious cycle of the disorders / disabilities and being unable to gain an income to have a stable roof over their head.
Thankfully, they have access to a therapist as well as psychiatric support BUT it's incredibly limited, we are talking once every 3 months IF lucky. Thank you America... Having an appointment with doctor is virtually impossible since it cost money they don't have, so the illnesses keep repeating, and no possibilities of a treatment, or even knowing the root cause, it is incredibly frustrating.
The odds are not really in their favour, but I want to believe in a kinder tomorrow for them, knowing that resources are limited, systemic issues won't change overnight, and when you're poor in the US with mental illnesses or disabilities, you're already lost in the system.
I am here today to ask what can be done for the cycle to not repeat, so they can enjoy a softer life, knowing everything I cited previously? Thank you so much ! Sorry for any grammar mistakes as I am not English.
