ILIT Bad Reaction (but not bad experience overall)
Hi,
Last week I had my fourth ILIT round (treating bad allergy-induced asthma and other allergy symptoms for dogs, cats, and dust mites). Within a few minutes, I went into anaphylactic shock, and this has not happened to me since I was really young. The doctor and staff handled it well, and symptoms were gone after a lot of oral medicine and two epipens. I felt pretty okay since, but almost a week after I had a sudden onset of symptoms (accelerated heart rate, light headedness, fever, etc.) and ended up going to the ER at my allergy doctor's rec.
I haven't been around animals in the past week, but in general I have felt huge relief by these shots. The only bad reactions I had to the first three were a headache and expected allergy symptoms. This is mostly just a PSA that the risk of anaphylaxis is real (as it is for any allergy shot). My doctor did not think that there was anything about the fourth shot in particular that caused this. I.e., there is not enough evidence to suggest a heightened risk with more shots. I think the risk is the same every time.
