We are expecting a boy and have a few name ideas. He will grow up in the US but likely spend time with different relatives who speak Chinese and Spanish, so ease of pronunciation is a factor.
Leander (nicknames Lee or Leo)
- History from Greek legends, "Leandros" meaning "lion-man".
- In Chinese would be "Li an de" 利安德 meaning something like "lucky, safety, virtue" which is GREAT
- In Spanish Leo or Leandro would probably work
Marcelo (nickname Marc if needed)
- Meaning related to the god Mars
- In Chinese could be "ma sai lo" 馬塞洛 rough meaning "horse blocks river/road" which is less great
- Already a Spanish name and probably not rare enough to confuse people who only speak English
Matthias (nickname Matt if needed)
- Regardless if you spell if Matthias, Mattias, or Matias, pronunciation confusion will probably happen
- Also considered "Mateo" instead
Jasper
- This reminds me most of the stone jasper although it's a separate etymology meaning "treasurer" from Persian
My wife tends to like names that are rare, older, but still classic recognizable names. Leander is currently the front runner for her. I also love the history of it and Leo or Lee is very easy.
