A name like Honey?

We are having a baby girl & our favourite name is Honey.

I ALREADY KNOW THAT EVERYONE HERE HATES THE NAME. You don’t have to tell me :)

We are English living overseas and to us Honey evokes softness, sweetness, warmth & golden sunshine. Our 4 year old boy is strawberry blonde and there’s a good chance this baby will be the same so that also factors into the name.

However, I want to set my child up for success and having test driven the name on a few people it’s clear that it’s quite divisive and I would hate to give my child a name that would hold her back (although part of me thinks once you give a child a name, it’s just their name but there you go…) so for that reason I am leaning towards Honey as a middle name that perhaps family will use & as she gets older she can choose her preference.

So my question is - what names would work as a first name that evoke a similar feeling to the ones I mentioned? We tend to lean towards more earthy, unique or hippie names over classic names.

Thanks!

Help with medical students combined last name

Hello! My fiancé and I are both in medical school and trying to figure out the last name situation before we graduate and get married (licensing would be a nightmare if we changed it after graduation). Our last names are Bothwell and Robinson- we have determined that hyphenation would be way too long and would really like to share a family name. We think finding some blend of names would be the best solution. We have considered Rothwell, Roswell, and Robinwell, but Rothwell is probably our top choice at the moment. We’re looking for feedback as well as any other ideas you might have that could represent both in some way :)

My favourite names when I was 10

I just found a list of my favourite names from when I was 10 (or possibly 9) and I think they're pretty damn funny so I'd like to share it with you all.

Girls:

Trinity

Roxanne

Stormantha (I remember wanting to call her Stormy, and for some reason thinking that she would be taken more seriously if her full name was Stormantha)

Ariana

Katie

Josephine (with the intention of calling her Joey)

Boys:

Pacey

Joseph

Dawson

Kyler (the idea was that it's a mix of Kyle and Tyler)

Does anyone else find it sort-of-wild when people on this sub suggest changing a middle name honor name for "flow"?

One thing I find really wild is how often people in this sub suggest changing an honor middle name into a different name just to improve the flow of the overall name (like... recommending Jane instead of Janet or Elizabeth instead of Bethany).

Maybe I'm in the minority on this, but it feels like such an odd suggestion to me. If the goal is to honor a specific person, then changing the name isn't a small tweak. Jane and Janet are different names. The alternative may have no connection at all to the loved one you are naming the baby after.

Of course if the parents themselves are open to using a variant, that's great. But it's just wild to me how often people assume?

Middle names also aren't said together with first names all that often in everyday life, so I think I'd almost always prioritize the loved ones name over achieving a certain rhythm.

Does this name work?

Does Elise Elizabeth “work” for a name?

We are wanting to honor my grandmother (Elizabeth) with the middle name as her birthday is the same month we are due with baby girl. We like Elise as a first name but my husband pointed out that Elise is a derivative of Elizabeth, so it’s kind of the same name for first and middle.

So would Elise Elizabeth be weird as a name?

ETA: Thank you for the honest and thoughtful feedback! This was our concern, so glad to know our thoughts are on the right track.

It’s down to Margot or Claire, which better?

We love both names. With Margot, I do worry a touch that she will get called Mar-GoT, (people pronouncing the T). Or calling her Maggot. Apart from that, I do love the name and my hope is that with Margot Robbie being so popular these issues might be non issues.

We also really like Claire. It could be a bit more “plain” than Margot, but I do love how it’s classic. It’s easy to spell and pronounce. It’s not too trendy, but is is very much established.

We are torn! Help us decide. Which is better - Margot or Claire?

Is Imogen "hard" or "weird" to pronounce?

My husband and I chose Imogen for our daughter but when we told family they seemed less than thrilled. Some people were telling us it's too "weird" and "hard" for the younger kids to say.

We also considered Iris, Isobel, and Iva.

Older siblings are Calla & August.

Surprise gender baby name help!

We have an Alma Louise and a Raphael Evander, I need suggestions for their new sibling (due any day)! I posted a couple weeks ago, but I persuaded the answers too much by giving our name ideas so far. I'd love to hear your ideas.

We have some front runners, but I'm really enjoying overthinking it. 😂

Our biggest qualification for names is that they are classic and meaningful.

Thoughts on a first name being “-er” when the surname is also “-er”?

My husband and I like the name Carter, for example, but the problem is our last name is also a 2-syllable, “-er” name (think: Carver, Walker, Archer, etc.)

Does that sound weird to have a name like “Carter Archer” or am I overthinking it? We really want to have a “C” boy name but are struggling to find ones we can settle on (especially ones that aren’t already people we know lol)—any input is welcome :)

Middle name suggestions

I’m due with a boy in October and our front runner name at the moment is Augustine. I’m really struggling to find a middle name that will flow well. My daughter’s name is Leona Fae and I was leaning towards a short middle name for her brother as well but it’s not a deal breaker if it’s not short. My brain for some reason has landed on Fox as his middle name but neither my husband or I are 100% sold on that yet.

Nickname suggestions?

Hi does anyone have nickname suggestions to make the name “Shreeya” (Sh-ree-ya, with emphasis on long e sound) easier to pronounce and more westernized/ambiguous? It’s to help me in the workplace/public speaking settings, since I’ve noticed my name is not common at all where I live and can lead to internal biases.

I went by Shree as a younger child, but I don’t think that sounds ambiguous or westernized even if it’s easier to pronounce.

Struggling with boy names… Otto and Henry are names I like

Context: live in Australia. Last name is 2 syllables and starts with ‘Ne’.

I originally liked Alfie but another family member has used that. Hugo was also a contender until friends used.

Potential middle names (all family names)
James
William
Logan

Any suggestions??
