I named myself Chloe when I was eleven… but I don’t know if I should keep the name

Hi! I’m a seventeen-year-old living in Asia! When I was eleven, I went to an english camp that required an english name to participate. I didn’t have a proper english name at that time so I just named myself Chloe and went with it for seven years. But now I’m worried Chloe might be outdated or maybe a bit too childish. I never got the chance to live in western countries so I have no idea what vibe my name gives. Can you please give your opinion on Chloe?? Would really appreciate some recommendations too!

How bad would this actually be?

I’m having a baby girl in September and my husband and I have agreed to stick with J names as he and I both have J names as well as my parents. We have had a boy name “locked in” for several years, however I’m pregnant with my first and it’s a girl.

My favorite name that I am pretty set on is Jovie for her. However the boy name that is absolute is Jon.

I’m worried if I name her Jovie and later on I have a boy and name him Jon, I will have Jon & Jovie. Similar in sound to Bon Jovi.

Am I overthinking this, or will I look stupid choosing these names?

Women named Finn

I'm in the process of transitioning (MtF) and I've been doing a lot of shopping around for names that feel right, but Finn has been my nickname for so long that changing it feels weird, so I figure maybe there are some girl names that could be shortened to Finn too? I figured asking here might be a good place to look lol

NOT Fiona either, I don't like that one much tbh

Edit: corrected FtM to MtF

Scandinavian boy name

I'm pretty much looking for Old Norse names or names that have Old Norse origin.

My husband and I are having our second child this year. I'm Danish, he isn't, and it's important to me that our son gets a name with Scandinavian origin (and I mean actual Scandinavian origin, not something like Lars that's just a Scandinavian version of Laurentius).

We found a name that we both like which would be easy to pronounce for both sides of the family. The only problem is that it literally means half Danish. My husband says it doesn't matter, and I don't know if I'm overthinking it or not? But I want more options if they are out there. I have looked at every website possible, so please tell me if you have ideas!

We live in a Nordic country, and I honestly don't care if my son's name is pronounceable in English, my name isn't and it has never been a problem.

To give examples I like names like Brynjolf, Asger, and Asbjørn, but those are unfortunately out for various reasons.

Is eponina too out there

Hi so for reference I want to change my name and ive narrowed it down to eponina or andromeda

im leaning towards eponina only issue is I think it could be too put there and also unknown as a name

I live in southern california so unusual names arent as uncommon but still

I love andromeda too still debating but only issue with andromeda is that my manager at work is named andromeda with a different spelling andromida

So is eponina too out there just wanted extra opinions

Its pronounced Eh-poh-NEE-na or Eh-puh-NEE-na
But to me the pronunciations are basically the same I figured some people saying one would come more naturally and vice versa

Also other information im 20 and I have a common hispanic last name and other names I like besides eponina and andromeda are lenore, winona, ariadne, ondine, and corvina.

I can’t decide between Cordelia or Theodora

My husband and I decided we loved Clementine, Theodora and Cordelia the most, however Clementine is a bit longer and people like to shorten names and we don’t care for any of the nicknames for it so we decided to keep it for a middle name

Which brought us down to Cordelia or Theodora

Cordelia is Shakespearean, I personally have liked it since I was younger and watched buddy the vampire slayer it means “daughter of the sea” which I think is a cool meaning and it’s in the 900s in popularity so it’s not common

When it comes to nicknames for it the only one I love is Delia, the other nicknames are just ok Corrie, Cora or cordie you could also maybe get DiDi but I’m not a fan of DiDi and I think Cora lately is overused, and I know a lot of guys I don’t like named cory

Theodora I have considered since I first watched the haunting of hill house one of the characters has that name and is nicknames Theo. Which I don’t mind because there’s Bobby for Roberta, Billy for Wilhelmina and Georgie for Georgia or georgette to me it’s neutral

But there’s also Thora which I love reminds me of Thora birch, Thea which is pretty, Theo which I think is cool, Theda which is really vintage, Rory which is more unexpected but I do like the name, Dora which is in the bottom tier for me but still likable enough

The only nickname I don’t like much is Teddy

It’s funny because a couple people said Theo is too masculine and to go with Teddy but to be Teddy could equally be considered boyish the only Teddy I think of is Roosevelt lol and Teddy reminds me of not just a little boy but also a stuffed bear

So anyways both names are totally my style I think it may just end up coming down to nickname likability I’m a Samantha and I know from personal experience that telling people you prefer your full name people don’t listen same with my daughter Penelope from the get go I said she’s just Penelope or Nell or Nellie I didn’t mind and now 60% of the time people are calling her penny. I still call her Penelope though lol

Cordelia Clementine or Theodora Clementine it is

I don’t mind that they’re long names together middle names are seldom used in day to day life and often times something will ask for middle initial anyway

What boy names would you pair with middle name Dex?

My husband’s name is Dexter, his middle name is his father’s first name. Currently expecting a boy and am considering following their tradition of giving baby boy his name as a middle name, but he always introduces himself a Dex as people constantly ask “what was that?” when he says Dexter. Anyway, what first names would you say pair well with Dex?

Help - doubts about the name Adrian

We named our son Adrian after much debate and not finding easily a name that sounded ok and natural in both our cultures and the country we live in (in Europe).

I am now super conscious about it and wonder if it sounds like an old man's name, is too common, not fluid enough within a phrase, sounding too serious, no easy nicknames etc.

Did that happen to you and did you overcome the feeling? Need your honest opinions.

We are lost on names and need input

Any of these have a negative connotation I haven’t thought of? Like anything in bad pop culture or anything that could be bullied? Our first child is Xavier if it matters. Also curious which are your favorites from our list and why and what type of kid you picture for any of these! Thanks for helping us!

Opinions on Samara & Marcella

Curious to know your thoughts on these two names and why. Do they give off different vibes? Which one flows better with the middle name Marie?

My Likes for Samara:
- Enjoy the winged seed and evening conversation meanings
- Has an international feel
- I’m personally not one for nicknames, but I don’t find Sam or Mara objectionable

My Dislikes for Samara:
- Has become moderately popular since the turn of the century
- Feels less timeless (in the U.S. it starts being used less than 100 years ago)

My Likes for Marcella:
- I have a positive association with a Marcia in my childhood (dislike Marcia though)
- Marcy or Cella are better nicknames
- Just below 1,000 in popularity
- Has been an established name in the U.S. for a long time

My Dislikes for Marcella:
- Ambivalent towards the meaning
- Don’t like Ella as a nickname

Also, does Marcella read as frilly?
For example, Arabella seems frilly but Marcella doesn’t to me. Overly frilly names are a dislike.

Thanks!

Help! I like two names perfectly equally and can’t decide between them at all

HELP. My next baby is going to be a team green but I have my girl name sorted. But if baby is a boy I am stuck between Casper or Gabriel. I adore them both equally. I was leaning on Casper but then get disappointed I might not get to use Gabriel so I stick with Gabriel then get disappointed I can’t use Casper then go round and round. I thought about just going Casper Gabriel but then I’d be disappointed if I had another son and had done that but of course that’s no guarantee…do you see how much of an overthinker I am! 😅

I have two other children, a boy and a girl, I don’t want to say their names but Casper flows better with my son’s name and Gabriel with my daughter’s. But then I’m not too hung up about sibsets anyway as either works really. Anyway, I don’t know what to plunk for. I could just wait until birth but I really like having a set name!

Fergal or Fergus?

Not sure if we would use it for a first or middle name yet but it fits our naming criteria and I'm looking for some opinions without having to say it to our loved ones. We are both Irish, living in Ireland and our other little ones all have Irish names. Our friend group/ family have used up a lot of the usual Irish boy names (everything from oisin to tadhg)!!

Names that go with Pearl and Selene?

I have been a namenerd since like forever, but I've got a tricky case that I just cant find "the right name": My cousin is about to have their third baby girl, but can't find a name. She knows I've been on Namenerd, so she wants to post here for some Namenerd's inspiration:)

I don't really know how to describe their name taste, but they really love Pearl and Selene, and they said it "felt right" lol. They don't really like popular names, nor short names (within 5 letters), nor names that end in "a".

- Names they like but didn't want to use are: Sylvie (didn't want two S, and my cousin's husband is a French Canadian, so he felt like it's an "average middle-aged woman" name), Eve (too short, religious association, and all the Ev- names being popular), Irene (too similar to Selene, and too old)

- Some names they kind of like but didn't really click are: Phoebe ("it's quirky but in a way boaderlining funny" lol), Hazel (not keen on its sound, also quite popular), Jules (didn't like any long form), Leila, Iris, Camille, Audrey

Low key stressin

First trimester, do not know gender yet. But I used my two favourite boy names for my son’s first and middle name 🤦🏻‍♀️ Arlo Oliver.
I cannot believe I am so fussy I’ve looked at thousands and thousands of names and nothing grabbed me. I was sold on Arlo for 5 years. I am feeling girl vibes, I’ve already got the name if it’s a girl. but you still just never know!
This is what I have so far.
Thoughts? And of course please please your best names ever. <3

A breakdown of month names, days of the week names and season names in the 2025 SSA data

Recently, I've been interested in month names, days of the week names and season names, so I thought I'd look through the SSA data and see how many babies were given each name in 2025. Note that if a name is not on the list, it was given to fewer than five babies born that year, as they withhold those names for privacy reasons.

Month names:

January (9 girls)

April (557 girls)

May (183 girls)

June (1978 girls, 66 boys)

July (17 girls, 14 boys)

August (268 girls, 2958 boys)

September (20 girls)

October (40 girls, 9 boys)

November (37 girls)

December (21 girls)

Days of the week:

Tuesday (17 girls)

Wednesday (37 girls)

Sunday (273 girls, 17 boys)

Seasons:

Summer (1973 girls)

Autumn (2805 girls, 8 boys)

Winter (732 girls, 77 boys)

Spring (77 girls)

My daughter has been born and we need to choose her name

My father was killed during my pregnancy with her so it was important to me her name will honour him. I did not like his name as a name itself, so instead we looked for names that had meanings connected to either his name, or something that he would have liked. Now we have six names and these are the ones. But I have trouble choosing the one for her. Thank you.

Originally her name was going to be Yuliya. So that is the kind of name I like, I like it to be pretty.

Solomiya - Peace

Kalyna - A Ukrainian symbol

Daryna - Gift

Vitaliya - Life

Halyna - Calm

Yaryna - Peace
